Discovery II Skirt

Great skirt! Lightweight, doesn’t wrinkle, dries quickly and is a flattering cut. I have several of the Discovery 1 skirts, which I love and. have traveled extensively in. I wanted to buy one in another color and was bummed when it looked like they were discontinued. So, I bought this instead and I think I may love this one even more than my others. The other skirt had outer snap shut pockets, but this skirt has only two pockets- an invisible zipper pocket in the hem big enough for some cash and credit cards, and a larger zipper pocket on the right side big enough for my iPhone. Although this skirt has less pockets it has a sleeker fit which gives it a dressier look. If you have the Discovery 1 skirts, those ones ran big so you needed to order a smaller size. This skirt is pretty true to size. I’m 5’3” and 155 lbs. and I ordered to size 10 which fits great. The skirt comes to mid-knee on me, so longer than on the model in the picture. I love it so much I just ordered another one for a trip I am taking this summer. My Discovery 1 skirts have held up beautifully and look just as good as they did when I bought them 7 years ago. This skirt looks just as well made so hopefully I’ll get a lot of wear out of it too.

I’m a Royal Robbins skirt enthusiast and have collected 6 so far, using them for hiking, gardening, and various other outdoor activities that are made easier and more pleasant with a lightweight quick drying skirt that stretches and has plenty of useful pockets. It doesn’t hurt that wrinkles fall out easily as well. Having said that, I find it unfortunate that the discovery II skirt design was made without the same number of robust pockets. It has 2, which sounds reasonable until you try to use them. Both are small,(you won’t be carrying your cell phone), and stiffly zippered, with tiny pull tabs that take two handsto manage. This is especially ridiculous when trying to open the horizontal pocket located close to the skirt hem, the other is vertical and located on the skirt side below hip level. In addition, the pockets themselves are actually free floating mesh underneath the skirt, so you should check their integrity before entrusting anything valuable to them. To sum it up, the discovery skirts are still very comfortable light weight skirts that make outdoor and travel activities easier to do in a skirt; and can be dressed up or down depending on the shoes and top it is paired with. On me, 5’3”, 120 lbs., a size 6 is a bit loose, but fits just way I like, sitting right at my hip bones, and coming about an inch below my knees.

I ordered two of these skirts, navy and falcon colors, in size 10. They arrived today. (I have one of the earlier version of the Discovery skirt in a 10, and really like it.)This Discovery II skirt fits tighter around the waist and hips, and has two hidden zipper pockets, one at the top of the slightly flounced hem and one on the side. The older version has three pockets, two at the sides (one with a large zipper and the other with a flap and snap), and another flap & snap pocket at the hem like this one, so l will miss that extra side pocket. However, this style looks a bit more sleek, so that's also good. The other style had more functionality, however.The other issue is the tighter fit in this skirt compared with the earlier Discovery skirt. In fact, I may order a 12 just to see how much looser it is. I'd rather it sit a little lower on my waist so as to add a little overall length.

I'm so excited to own this skirt! It is versatile. Although bought for travel it is nice enough to wear to work. It runs a tad bit large. I'm 5'2" and 125lbs and the size 4 falls right below my knees and fits loose around my waist. Since I prefer things loose this works well for me but may not fit those who prefer a fitted skirt. Two thumbs up!

I have the original discovery skirt in another color and it’s a solid inch and a half wider in the waist. The length of the new one is the same as the old one but obviously the fit is not as good. The zippers are also very stiff and one of the pickets is located in a very strange place-about 4” from them hem- and requires two hands to unzip so it’s really awkward. I still think it’s a good skirt in the sense that the fabric is easy to care for and it does make for a fairly versatile piece. Just don’t plan on using the pockets in place of a purse.

I have 5 colors now! Best travel skirts ever! Leggings stick to fabric of skirt. Bummer. Need to find new leggings...

I bought one of these several years ago- still going strong and I get SO many compliments. I decided to get one in black last week. Prana has changed the design slightly with the pockets. The reason for the 3 stars is that today, I wore it for the first time, tried to open one of the zippered pockets (just gently unzip, not manhandle) and the zipper became very stuck in the mesh fabric of the pocket. I have worked on it gently throughout the day, and just sat down with it (while not wearing) to try and free the zipper but to no avail. I’m very sad and also disappointed that the quality of the pocket is not up to par with my old skirt from 2015. I’ll still wear this one, just can’t use the pocket which was one of the things that drew me to this skirt.

This Discovery II skirt has the same lines as the earlier model of the Discovery skirt. As other reviewers have noted, the newer version has different pockets. I did note that my earlier size 6 Discovery skirt was the exact same size as my new size 8 Discovery II skirt.
