How to Grow Great Alfalfa

Book does what it says: grow quality forage yourself!
I really enjoyed reading this book and the author's main point: livestock owners should seek to grow the highest quality hay AND he explains what that quality IS and how to get it. There was a good bit of scientific explanation on why plants need the fertilizers they do and the nutritional benefits to livestock that are provided and it was easy to understand (ex: Calcium is needed for the cell membrane function etc) He also explained how to check the sugar levels, the simple equipment needed, and what was most desirable. This book is best for someone who already knows the ins and outs of crop farming.

Misleading Title & Description - Disappointing
21 Feb 2014, I purchased this short book to learn how to grow alfalfa and related grasses on land that has lain fallow for some years. The title suggests this is the focus - a 'How To' treatise on the subject. Instead, I found that the book is really a pitch for green agricultural practices. While these may be worthy, I am disappointed for my uses. The book assumes a level of knowledge I do not have (but wish to have) and debates issues in which, at this time, I have limited interest. If I wanted to evaluate alternative approaches to tillage, pest control, etc. I would seek such content - 'comparative practices' or 'green practices.' The author does seem to know his subject, which is comforting. I only wish he had addressed the issues suggested by the title and synopsis. A disappointing purchase for me. RMB

Good info
This thin guide is a good intro into growing alfalfa. Useful, but you'll need to learn more. It leans toward Natural farming.

Nothing new from what I already knew...
With the information I have already learned from other publications I was disappointed to not have learned anything new from this book. I found this to be very, very basic in the data provided.

Save Your $$$$$$!
40 pages a disappointment as there is not the information indicated by the books title. Save your money and go to the local coffee shop and ask a few local Farmers.

The book is good but didn't meet my expectations. There are many more about alfalfa which were not mentioned in the book
