Best kayak carrying harness that I've tried
Do you hike your kayak longer distances than the parking lot to the launch? Can those distances be measured in quarters of a mile or more? Are you too stubborn, paranoid, or remote to use a kayak cart (or some combination of those)?Stop looking. You want this.I live about a mile (with a hill) from the launch and I am a not exceptionally fit 5'8" female when I'm not slouching (which is never, so 5'7"). Carrying something 2x my height and 1/3 my weight is never going to be not awkward, yet this backpack system comes closer than I thought possible. If you don't center it carefully, the kayak will try to tip you over and maybe succeed. If it's windy, the kayak will act like a sail. Even in ideal conditions, you'll probably want to use an arm to stabilize the boat as you walk. I've tried a few different shoulder strap carriers and none of them were great. This harness, though, this I can do any time and even in bad conditions.Watch the video from the manufacturer on how to strap the thing, and I've benefitted from additionally running the straps through D-rings/harness points or any other available fixed point on the kayak to make it more stable. It takes a few minutes to strap/unstrap and you'll want to practice picking up and putting down the kayak a few times (or have everyone at the beach laugh at you when you fall over, either way). But you didn't want to use wheels and you have a kayak to carry and it's big and awkward, yes? OK, get this thing. It's the one you want.
