It is 14.5" in diameter and the width across the handles is 17".

All the time! It's a favorite of ours and the 35 people we gave it to as Christmas gifts last year! You will love it!!!

Q: can you use this as a griddle on a gas stove?

According to Emile Henry's website, it can be used over an open flame, grill, and whatnot. I wouldn't use it as a "griddle" over a gas-grill simply because there are better options, but what the previous commenter said is incorrect in that it is capable of being exposed to an open flame.
