Hot Tools Pro Artist 24K Gold Marcel Iron | Long Lasting Curls, Waves (1-1/4 in)

I have been buying Hot Tools marcel irons for years. If you have hair that won't keep a curl, this is a great iron. It gets really hot and makes nice lasting curls. This barrel is 1.25 inches around which makes a nice soft curl. The iron is the same length as any curling iron and has an extra long cord making it easier to move around the bathroom. After learning how to use a marcel, I can never go back to spring irons again. With marcel grips, you can control the curl so much better and clip the hair much tighter. This is the least expensive marcel I have found and it works like any professional iron.

I was so excited to get this curling iron it works so good it amazing like it works miracles because my hair will not hold a curl for nothing and I get curled hair i have to make sure that the curls are cooldown before I run my fingers through my hair this curling iron take a little practice to get to use it but once you get the hang of doing it is really easy the reason it takes practice is because this curling iron doesn’t have a spring to hold the bar down you have to use it almost like you were using chop sticks lol

To preface this review, I’m a licensed cosmetologist of 7 years and only use Marcel style irons. Hot tools isn’t my favorite brand of Marcel, but they’re decently built and it’s the only one I could find in this barrel size. I bought this for myself to get “big hair”. I love the look of my buns after my hair air dried in tiny braids, but that takes a full 24 hours of drying time after I’ve done the prep work for my hair to dry all the way, so I thought a tiny curling iron was my solution. The reviews were less than stellar, but I figured it was just because of the learning curve with marcels. When you first start using them it’s really hard, but after you learn it’s infinitely easier than a spring clamp iron. Well it turns out that’s not the case, this did not work well as a marcel for long hair. Because your hair is wrapped so tightly around the tiny iron it does not allow the clamp to open properly and slide down. I think it would probably work if you drop the curl after every wrap as you move down the hair shaft, but that’s really difficult to do on yourself with this size iron. I think I would probably be fine on someone else’s hair and it’s perfect for short hair, just not what I wanted it for. I was able to get good results using it as a wand, but you have to take such tiny sections for it to heat properly that I gave up after one row realizing it would take at least 4 hours to do my entire head like that. Now onto my real problem with the product. When it arrived it was covered in a glue like substance so it was super sticky. The handle was completely covered evenly, but the barrel and cord were not so I’m pretty sure it was intentional. I’m not sure in what world you would want your hand covered in stickiness while using a curling iron, but it was terrible. I tried to remove it with rubbing alcohol, wax remover, dish soap and water, and Clorox all purpose cleaner, none of which touched it at all. Luckily my husband had some kind of paint and varnish stripper in his shop that was able to take it off with a good bit of scrubbing, but it was terrible. I was so disappointed I couldn’t try it right out of the box. Not sure if this was a manufacturing error or a grave mistake in product design

I used several curling iron, curling rolls and the wand but none of them can give me the long lasting beautiful curls. At the end, my hair was damaged and dried out like straw. Not even mentioned my hair turned straight within 2 hours. I've heard about a lot of good feedback of Hot Tools Curling Iron from online and my friends, which made me want to try it. After done some research online, I decided to give the Hot Tools Marcel Curling Iron a try. It's a little bit hard to learn how to use it properly at the first place if you never use a Marcel curling iron, like me. It's quite different from the regular Spring curling iron. I saw a few negative feedback regarding the Spring needs to be replaced after 4-6 months use. I don't want to take a chance. The beautiful curls lasted more than 24 hours when I just use the medium high heat (370 F). Plus, I DID NOT use any holding spray! The only product I put on my hair is the heat protector spray before curl my hair! After I wash my hair, I can feel my hair is a little bit dry but not as bad as other curling irons did to my hair. After I deep condition my hair, it feels soft and shining again. I cannot go back to other Curling Iron. This one is a bit heavier than my other curling irons. I will look into other different sizes of the Hot Tools Curling Iron. My suggestion is always try to test from the lowest heat and slowly goes up to find out which heat level is the best for your hair and holding the curls because every one's hair is different. Always, always use a heat protector spray before start to curling your hair. Do NOT curl the hair while it's still damp unless you want to burn your hair off. BTW, I am not a professional hair stylist but I love to find a great curling tool which I believe I finally found one this time. I am happy with my purchase!
