The Sound of Alison Balsom

This was a British release and I am glad to have found it on Amazon in the US. Though some of the selections are available on some of Alison Balsom's US releases, there are some that are not. It is a good collection to have. It is also a great starting place if one had never listened to this phenomenal artist. Highly recommended.

As an aged Baroquisto, I've always delighted in the sound of the natural trumpet so brilliantly played and popularised by Crispian Steel-Perkins in my generation. Now we have his "natural" successor in the art and form of Alison Balsom, a brilliant musician of understanding, depth and genius. When "the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised" it will be Alison who gets the job. She's also a superb yachtswoman so walking on water may not be out of the question.

I've heard Alison Balsom so many times on the radio, I just had to buy an album. This one is particularly nice because all "baroque" (my favourite) and it's a good mixture of all the best tracks from several other albums. Excellent value.

Great trumpet playing by Alison Balsom, with an interesting choice of composers and musical pieces. Some are transposed and adapted to trumpet, but Alison makes everything sound as though it were written for her trumpet. An unusual album, well worth buying.
