Cambro is a well known and trusted name in the restaurant biz, so you would expect quality and durability. Cambro delivers just that in this product. Just remember you also need the top part (Dome Cover) to complete the set. For daily use its fairly attractive and effective for its intended purpose, for more formal days look else where and spend more. In use the food remains hot for nearly an hour. Hospitals use this when serving food for their patients. This is also useful for keeping food hot on the table when family takes time coming to the table, saves reheating time and altering food quality. Suggestions and tips: buy several to keep several dishes hot on table when friends and family come over for gatherings. Takes 9" plates, use heated ceramic or stoneware plates for added effectiveness. Great for outdoor use too, keeps bugs away from your food while keeping it hot. I hand wash mine, takes too much room in the dishwasher. This underliner also stacks well for storage. Not sure if it's BPA free but it's NSF and best of all MADE IN AMERICA.

This is only part of a 2 part plate warming "heat keeping" system. You also need, what appears to be, a proprietary Camtherm® Thermal Pellet . The pellet appears to be a specific type of plate that needs a specific heating mechanism and a special lift (probably so you don't get burned). The plate gets set into this tray, and then typically a dome is placed on top to keep the meal warm. The product description should really tell you that this will not work as a stand alone product.

Kind of lite weight thought it would be heavier guess I need bottom plate
