Seems well made.
I've had several come alongs over the yrs, this one is the heaviest one I have ever owned, for its rated size. I haven't used it yet but I'll edit this review when I do.Out of the box it seem to be well made, the parts are nicely finished. it comes with a good heavy duty snatch block. I plan on taking it apart in places to grease it, because the drum is kinda stiff and, you should grease the drums pin anyway. The anchor hook and the other end are nicely made, but held in with a pin with a C clip, why I have no idea, that point should be a bolt and nut.... Ill probably upgrade that too. Overall, out of the box its a nice unit for $50.On the subject of people saying this or any other come along on amazon bends or the handles buckle ect ect... I think they simply push them too far. With a comealong, if you cant easily pull the handle and rotate the drum, stop trying, you are at its limits. Sure it says "8000 lbs " but that doesn't take into account for friction.... the coefficient of friction can make a 1000lb load exceed 8000lbs needed to move it. is it on dry pavement or wet pavement? is it stuck in the mud? how deep? how stiff is the mud? are you pulling uphill? There are a lot of variable in that figure. I have ripped come alongs into pieces with seemingly light loads, simply due to how stuck they were to the surface by friction. These things aren't magic they are simple physics. Rolling loads are not dead weight. Depending on how they arrived at the rating, they could have been pulling 8000lbs on level ground with a very low CoF. For example, If I have a dead cow, on dry turf that weighs 1500lbs, and a 1500lb concrete block on the same surface, it might take 5x the force to move one and not the other. When I use it I will update this on my findings and impressions. Out of the box, looks like a good deal for $50.

Great tool.
I bought an unknown brand come-along/cable puller/power pullerin 1991 which has served me well in felling medium size trees.I am using it as a standard to compare against. I needed anadditional puller so I bought the Tekton 5547. The old one hadonly a single gear and the letdown/release mechanism requiredleather gloves to operate without pain or even injury. TheTekton has two gears and the mechanism is kind to the hands.Using vernier calipers, I measured the thickness of the steelforming the handles: 4mm for the old puller, which had bentslightly from use, and 5 mm for the Tekton, so I anticipatelittle or no bending. The steel forming the body was 5 mm thickfor the old puller, 6 mm for the Tekton. The cable diametermeasured 0.211 inches for the old puller, 0.233 for the Tekton. The old puller used bolts requiring a 17 mm socket, 5/8" socketneeded for the new puller (almost the same). Both pullersextended to the same length: as advertised, the Tekton spans 7'3" from hook in the front to the hook in the back. The openingon the hooks on the old puller started at 7/8" and widened outto 1"; motion of the safety clip left a 5/8" clearance. Thehooks on the Tekton are also 7/8" but don't widen out, so motionof the clips only leave a 3/8" clearance. This is a problem forthe 3/4" nylon rope I use - it is only with substantialdifficulty that the rope can be removed from a Tekton hook oncethe clip snaps over it. My solution was to deactivate theclip with a strip of duct tape locking it permanently into theopen position against the hook. The clip clearance is the onlynegative about the Tekton and is insignificant to me since theclips have always only gotten in my way. The Tekton made somealarming noises when cranked which disappeared when lighthousehold oil was applied liberally to all moving parts. Sofar I've only used it for one tree and it worked flawlessly. TheTekton 5547 is a great tool and I'd recommend it to anyone.Update 4/2019: Since my original Tekton 5547 purchase, I bought two more, one in 2/2013and another in 3/2015. I have used four pullers at a time to help fell six white pine trees (about 22" diameter) togetherwith 5/8" EHS dacron (polyester) ropes from Steve Davis, who some of you may know. I've also felledmany smaller trees using these pullers. I lost one puller when a tree fell on it and cracked the spindle.I've never had a major problem with them, even when I had to horse down to get maximum pull.I did have some minor problems besides the safety clip problem previously detailed:I saw one or two of the main bolts turning during use; they were easyto tighten down. Another problem also reported by other reviewers is that on one of the pullersthe springy cable guide caught on the cable, preventing it from releasing. This was annoying butawkwardly manageable with a huge screwdriver pushed between the cable and the guide while operating therelease mechanism. A reviewer suggested buying a better puller from a prominent tool company. I'minterested in better tools so I did order one. I was disappointed: that puller had aluminum parts and themain body was significantly thinner than the Tekton's 6 mm. It did work but I think I would have beenbetter off with another Tekton. As of 3/2015, unless I want to pay about 10 times as much for a puller, the Tekton is still the best I could find. I'd like to know if there is a better one in the price range - pleasepost a comment if so.

great tool for the price
Minus one star for inability to release gear when under tension, other than that, this tool is fully functional, suitably constructed, and reasonably easy to operate. once engaged, it is able to pull objects quite well. As to weight limitations, when drag, total cable/chain/strap length are added to object weight, I'd say 1 ton is a safe limit. I'd only use this to pull 4 tons if a the object was on wheels and level ground. I used this winch to pull a 1000 pound boulder across the ground using "tree saver" straps, chains, and an axle strap with D-ring shackle. the extra axle strap was added to mix just in case I need to cut a strap in order to release tension, but that wasn't necessary since chains around boulder could be re-positioned to release tension (a digging bar, hammer/sledge, or crowbar may be needed). The winch itself can be clumsy to operate. Though it gets easier with familiarity, it does require two healthy hands leaving none to hold it. I shopped winches in stores costing 2-3x as much that didn't seem as solidly built. I found the one-piece forged gears on this winch preferably to the 1/4" piece of steel on the more expensive models. I suggest starting with smaller weights to get used to using it, then get the pieces and parts that work best for your tasks. I'm still considering an easy-release ratchet in the mix but have concerns about adding a link to the equation that might not be able to handle the high tension. I wouldn't use this for pulling vehicles out of mud holes.

Works much better than the cheaper power pulls I have used!
I have used this a few times, but had a chance to test it while taking a leaning tree down. I used the single line pull option, 2000lb rating, to get the extra length of line pull. It worked great, very stable and much better than my previous Princess Auto units. Double pawls on both the pulling and holding sides, so quite strong. I would look for a synthetic line version if I bought another, but overall great.

Resistente
Todo excelente!! Un detalle que al enredar si no lo haces con cuidado se brinca el cable atorándose en el carrete

Can handle the weight, BUT
Product is sturdy and built to handle the weight rating indicated. However, some components are flimsy for a product of this weight rating. The clips on the hooks are pretty much made from tin and bend if the wind blew. The switch to change the handle from load to unload is flimsy as well and does not change smoothly. Otherwise, I expect the other parts will be strong enough for the loads I intend to use it for.
