Perfect size, well built.
Exactly the size I wanted. Well built of metal. Perfect for my "urban sketching" kit.

If you're used to premixing large washes of color for large works, it's too small.
This is a real tiny, endlessly adjustable watercolor palette, and it does a fine job at that. It is not much bigger than a credit card, (but obviously thicker than one). If you know how big a standard half pan is, you can just barely fit 12 half pans, so that should give you some idea as to size. I was hoping the wells on the top were deeper than they were. Unfortunately in my opinion, it can only hold enough mixed paint there, to do a background wash for a 5x7" work. If you're willing to do a water coat on the background, and drop in color, mixing as you paint, this does not matter. For me, it takes adjustment. If your paint is not wet, you can easily turn this thing upside down, do a dance, and quite possibly chuck it across the room, with out anything shifting. I added 4 Jerry's Artarama half-pans to the center, and did not have to alter the box at all. Everything fit in snug, but worked.I had never owned any pan watercolors prior to this, but was using a large 12"x16" John Pike Palette, with set wells and the like. I wanted something that I could switch out the order, colors, and brands easily. This works. I'm making the shift from using solely W+N's cotman colors to other brands and artist quality. I didn't want to put an expensive tube of paint into my studio palette that I ended up not liking, so this little box is good for that. I can always switch out pans.I've only used tube paint in the box so far, so I can't speak as to whether or not other brands of pre-filled pans fit inside. However, after an unfortunate wasteful and messy experience filling these pans with brand new tube paints, I probably wouldn't fill the pans first thing with a brand new tube. Especially Daniel Smith's Pyrrol Red, tube practically exploded out of the tube, and is incredibly runny and very expensive compared to spending the usual $2.80 a tube I was on student grade paint. Had to allow it to explode into my studio palette, so it wouldn't be a waste.I will update if I try other brands of pans in this box.

Disappointed
The bottom has a finger ring, which prevents it from sitting flat on a table. There are feet, but the do not extend past to the ring which makes them not function as intended. I contacted the company for a refund, but they insisted on a restocking fee. Very disappointed in the product.

First off I was informed that this item is made ...
First off I was informed that this item is made in China. For an item that is cheaply constructed (the spine has a brass long pin that stops the lid from poping off whichcan come loose at any time) they only justijustification for the product is that it might support a worthwile cause. It's $26 more than what it should cost. Also, if the pin does ever fall out you can unwind a jumbo paper clip and use that instead

Overpriced and Heavy
Good quality cases but, very heavy without the paint. Way overpriced. I returned it and purchased cheaper ones that are lighter.

a Bijou box for our time...
This is a well done clone of the beloved, now unobtainable Windsor & Newton Bijou box. The Bijou Box was the greatest traveling watercolor box ever conceived. You can only inherit one. Yet here, for all practical purposes, is that very box! As expensive as it seems, Pay the Money. You will not regret it, but you will use it with pleasure everywhere you go. You can fit 4 more half pans down the middle- even using the pan retaining metal strips.

Great!!!
I really like it! I think the only downside would be that there really no room to store a brush, cloth, or sponge, if you fill the middle row with half pans. Other than that this was a fantastic purchase. It is very lightweight and smaller than an Altoids tin. It is a bit expensive but if you can afford it I would recommend it.

In absence of ready-made travel palettes of my favorite paints (both brand and colors)
In absence of ready-made travel palettes of my favorite paints (both brand and colors), this is perfect--it is convenient to fill, use, and clean, add extras or exchange individual colors. My travel brush fits in fine. Fits in a small purse. There are no down sides.

sweet little treasure box
Delivery was very fast, less than 10 days is perfect for shipping overseas. The box come with 8 empty half pans. I filled it with 12 half pans from Schmincke which fits perfect. It is a cute little treasure this box in the tradition and size of the famous W&N Bijou box, which is discontinued and used impossible to catch. The price is high, but the last W&N I saw goes about 200€ ...I am very happy about the item and will order soon a second one for special colours.
