Throwback
So I've read this book many moons ago, in paperback, when it was published by Samhain Publishing. I loved it then and I love it still. Colby and Channing have great chemistry, and the intimacy is off the charts hot. This is a story of adventure, list, and love, with a smidge of rebellion. It's sexy fun, and a fabulous quick read.

The Cowboy Way
If I had known of the true cowboy way of life, I would have dropped out of school at the age of thirteen, sold my soul to Satan for a saddle, and ridden horses until my thighs ached and my lower back was nearly split in two. This novel had it all: blazing bodies; sensual, three-dimensional sex kittens; measurements that would make a stripper envious; free love and free sex for all; bowling ball breasts; a butt that could bounce a toothpick; a beer wet t-shirt contest, where Channing Kinkaid offered up the size of her rack for your reading pleasure; women who could win, place, and show in the Shaft-Licking Derby. I felt like I was partying with a bunch of twenty-one year old boy band groupies who had just been eradicated from the convent. Note to self, don't read Lorelei James right before bed. I was so wired I could have run a marathon in the pouring rain in the middle of the night.Any book that stirs up the equivalent of emotional vodka, whether it's of the positive or negative variety, is worth reading in my opinion. Instead of forgetting this novel five minutes after I'd read it, or being disgusted by it, I felt like I was reading Penthouse Letters in the middle of the night via a reading lamp. Even more than that, though, this felt like erotica with heart, since there was an actual story, not the most rock solid affair, mind you, but there was the equivalent of relationship building and some team bonding. I should also add that I'll never look at a rope the same way again.LONG HARD RIDE pretty much exhausted every male fantasy I'd ever had. I didn't have any giant expectations going into this read, other than some mind porn in exchange for a few hours of my time, and because I didn't expect too much, I was certainly happy with the end result. Let me just say that Ms. James can write a sex scene. It played out in my mind in Technicolor with butts hanging from rafters and tits bouncing around like five year olds on a trampoline. Nuclear reactors exploding would have made less noise and caused less damage than the cumulative result of some of her sex scenes. And the sheer amount of manhood contained in these pages could power a boy band for an entire century. Not that I'm complaining about all the exploits, mind you. With bodies humping harder and faster than a Rottweiler hopped up on amphetamines, what's not to love?If you just go along for the ride, you'll find yourself with a full heart and a broken bed, possibly a broken table or two, a banged up horse trailer, and possibly gouged by a bull, but even then, it might still be worth it.Robert DownsAuthor of Falling Immortality: Casey Holden, Private Investigator

The start of it all...
(first read in 2008)For anyone new to Rough Rider’s series LHR was the first book. The root of the series is about 4 McKay brothers and their families. Their children are who the books are about along with plenty of background on the 4 families. The McKay’s made their living as ranchers and most of their children went on to also become ranchers but some also were rodeo stars and others in various jobs from construction to law enforcement. The series evolves over a lot of world building (even though this word is typically used with science fiction I feel it pertinent here). Sometimes the first book in a series can be overloaded with backstories and characters as you are introduced to it. LHR really didn’t really do that. It was the books that preceded it that got to the heart of the Mckay family and all the things you come to love about the series with each book. LHR was a look at life on the road for Colby McKay who was a bull rider and calf roper. Colby traveled the circuit with Trevor and Edgard and the three of them in between shows were never short on women. When they run into Channing Kinkaid on the road and she wants to join them on the road and agrees to be their personal buckle bunny things start changing in the relationships between all of them.I didn’t really like Colby through most of this book. Its funny in every book after this one I did but in this one he was a bit too arrogant and he needed to be brought down a peg or two. This wasn’t the first book I read in the series when I started. I happened to find this author right after she released the second book in the series and I loved that book so then came back and read the first one. If your just starting out on this series don’t base an opinion off the first book cause every book after this one rocked and you’ll come to love all the McKay’s and their family drama.

I really got into this story and enjoyed all the characters
I actually was really surprised by this one. I thought it would be a quick smutty read with a so so story line but I was wrong, I really got into this story and enjoyed all the characters.Chan a woman on a mission to find herself and some excitement finds herself following a cowboy around the Rodeo circuit but when she finds out he his married she finds herself not knowing what to do next.Little did she know someone already had plans for her and she comes to an agreement with Colby to travel the rest of the circuit with him and his two cowboy friends.there is a little group play without sexThere is actual only oneThere is a little M/M action as the secret of two characters is revealed but it is really a love story about the H and h.

but it was almost like too much in some ways and too thin in ...
This didn't do it for me. So much so that I wouldn't read anymore of hers. I cant quite grab why it didn't work, but it was almost like too much in some ways and too thin in others. Not my best spend.

Don’t bother
This book is pretty boring - for all the kink I thought it would be more interesting but it isn’t. The heroes are boring, the heroine is boring, their s3x scenes are boring... also the only time when things sort of got real with him having his artery getting pieced and him breaking his leg, she left him while he was in icu because she said he wouldn’t want me to see him like this’...!!!??? Really? She decides for him while he’s recovering from an 8 hr surgery and disappears? Complete trash - don’t bother
