The incredible career of perhaps the greatest boxer of all time, Muhammad Ali, is dramatized in this exciting film starring Ali himself. Fresh from his gold medal victory at the Olympic Games, 18-year-old Cassius Clay is ready to seek the heavyweight championship. Under the masterful guidance of trainer Angelo Dundee (Ernest Borgnine). Clay snatches the title from Sonny Liston. Soon afterward, Clay converts to the Islam religion and changes his name to Muhammad Ali. When he is suddenly classified 1A by the Draft Board that earlier rejected him, Ali refuses the draft on religious grounds. His hard-won title is taken from him. Winning a three-and-a-half year long court battle. Ali returns to the ring for what have been some of the greatest fights of all time.

The Greatest of the Greats!
I remember watching Cassius Clay, aka Muhammed Ali, when he was boxing in the 1960 Olympics, earning a gold medal. He acts in this himself and it's not a bad keepsake -- if you can still find it.

Collectors Item if you ask me........
This movie came on my local t.v channel the other day...I had never seen it, but after watching it I decided that I had to have it to add to my movie collection....I thought it was a great movie...Its a biographical movie of the life and career of Muhammed Ali starring Ali as himself, and what a great job of acting he did....!! He is just an iconic figure in world sports history and an original character that will never be matched in talent or personality....When I was young I hated Muhammed Ali and when I watched him fight on t.v, I always rooted for the other guy...I especially liked Joe Frazier instead....the Smokin Joe and Ali fights were the greatest fights of all time......Its just a great movie to own.....I highly reccommend it to any sports fan or boxing fan or Ali fan.

Here you have him for ever in his best moment. You can feel your self near to ...
This is not a masterpiece in the art of movies. Nothing in this one deserves an Oscar, but it is a piece of history to research the legend of Mohamad Ali. Here you have him for ever in his best moment. You can feel your self near to him and know him better. It's increíble to think he acted the moments he lived by his own, a very realistic perspective about what really happened in his life. I see this movie as a historical documental, although it isn't no by it self.

Better than Will Smith!
I found 'The Greatest' to be a more enjoyable film than Ali (2001) starring Will Smith. No one can play the champ better than the man himself and I found him to be a breath of fresh air in this well made picture. It is not high budget and does not have a strong storyline apart from the fact it is a biographical picture but Muhammad Alis' acting and dialogue is a must watch for anybody with an interest in the phenomenon that was and is Muhammad Ali.
