This is a Roden 1/48 Scale assembly and painting required plastic model kit of the Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5, a single-engine biplane fighter of the British Royal Flying Corps in World War I. Model kit features: S.E.5A W/ Hispano Suiza. WW I British fighter. Detailed exterior, engine, and cockpit. British markings. The S.E.5 was a formidable fighter aircraft with better overall performance than the famed Sopwith Camel, but compared to the Camel, the S.E.5 was mechanically unreliable. The S.E.5 was fitted with the new high performing Hispano-Suiza 8a V8 engine, which was capable of delivering up to 150 horsepower, but the engine also proved to be the S.E.5's Achilles' heel, as the engine was prone to frequent mechanical failures. Despite its shortcomings, the S.E.5 proved to be an outstanding fighter and was instrumental in helping the allies regain and maintain air superiority from 1917 onwards.
