La Crosse Technology TX50U-IT Wireless Temperature Sensor

Do not believe the people when they say it doesn't work with the gateway. Do they not know that the gateway is designed to work with only 1 sensor? All that has to be done so the gateway works with this is to first take out the batteries for the old sensor and put them into the new sensor. Then take the batteries out of the gateway, so it resets itself. Put the batteries back into the gateway and leave the sensor close to the gateway and it does connect. If the people who claim that this doesn't work for the gateway will look at the back of both this and the old sensor, they will see they are one and the same.

It did work!!!!!We have ordered replacements in the past, but this one does not work with our thermometer. In our opinion it was a waste of money.

This product is ridiculous. Its one of the reasons we wrote the customer service book titled Negotiate Anything! How to Make Companies Treat You Fairly (available on Amazon). This product is so poorly designed. It simply doesn't function. I've pulled the batteries out of the base station and the individual temp readers now 3 times, but it will only read on one of the sensors (the one that came with the base station.March 1, 2014 update: Upon further review and investigation, I noticed that while I ordered a Model TX50U wireless temperature sensor, I was shipped a Model TX29U which essentially looks the same (yet includes branding of 'Weather Direct - by LaCrosse Technology) on the front. I don't know if Amazon shipped me the wrong sensor or if it was mislabeled by LaCrosse Technology. Anyway, I will send back the TX29U and see if I can't get a TX50U which is the model sensor that came with my original shipment.As I mentioned, I've now tried 5 times to make it sync with the base station, by pulling the batteries out of each and reinserting them in the order on the directions and within the prescribed time period.In summary, I would not recommend this product. Way too much hassle for something that should be straight forward and simple.March 4, 2014 update: Amazon sent me the correct Model this time, with free one day delivery (customer service excellence). I contacted the vendor to tell alert them to the face they may have mislabeled merchandise. Tonight, I will once again remove all the batteries from the base station and senders and attempt to set this up again and provide information on that experience. The fact that all the batteries have to be removed and a user has to start all over again is a 'ridiculous amount of work to go through to set up such a simple device'.March 9, 2014 update. I've tried several times to set up a second sensor to no avail. I removed all the batteries the precisely followed the instructions. I have now tried at least six times to make the gateway read the new sensor I rec'd from Amazon. It just won't work. The sensor that came with the original gateway works just fine -- as it should. I will return the second sensor to Amazon.In summary, do not purchase this product. It does not work as advertised and requires too much work for a simple device.

So I tried another unit that I was told would work. It turns out I had to be specific even though it matches frequency. Lesson learned. Needed to spend the extra $ to make display work. It does. I am happy and I have accepted the extra spending. Even my temperature came down. Next time just going outside to check.

Not as accurate and easy to use as I thought it would be for the money. Cheaper and smaller units work as well.

Good product

I keep it enclosed in a plastic box (electrical) nailed to a fence so as to keep the rain and elements away from the unit. The electrical box unscrews so you can put new batteries in the unit. If you just put it on a holder that comes with it a a window sill, the unit will deteriorate quickly. However, I believe the trick is to keep it in a weather tight plastic (not metal) box. The telemetry goes through the plastic into your home so you get a good reading on the outside temperature. The LaCrosse clock is wonderful and easily contacts WWWV in Colorado so as to keep the time within the ambit of the atomic clock.

My old exterior transmitter had quit. This replacement easily connected and works as it is supposed to.
