Gorgeous expressive photographs in black and white
The subjects are mostly female film actresses and models. Among those with multiple photographs are Monica Bellucci (12), Emma Watson (8, including the cover), Charlize Theron (6), Lily James (3), Laetitia Casta (8), Amanda Seyfried (2), Adriana Lima (6), Scarlett Johanssen (3). The name of George Hurrell is sometimes mentioned in discussing Vincent Peters' photographs because of their similar choice of subjects. The important difference is that Hurrell's explicit goal was to glamorize his models as well as the fact that they all kept their clothes on. Vincent Peters' photographs, while expressing the beauty of the subjects, have a more natural lighting. When there is nudity, it is never titillating but celebratory of the body, but, if you are against nudity per se, this book is not for you.The book's dimensions are 7+5/8" x 9+1/2", smaller than the typical coffee-table size. Photographs are printed on matte paper, not detracting from their sharpness.Unlike some modern photographers, Vincent Peters does not engage in "weird-for-weirdness'-sake" - refreshingly welcome fact to me.

a bit of a problem
I'm having a bit of a problem recommending this book. The book itself is a well made hardcover book with good reproductions of decent photos mostly of women in various stages of undress. The problem that I'm having is that there is no there there. While the photos of beautiful (mostly) women are pleasant enough to look at after a while you start to crave some real connection. If this book was food it would be all the same dessert with no main course. Unfortunately for me I saw the book Photographs by Mark Seliger before I picked this one up and the Seliger book is about a talented photographer with great ideas who seems to easily connect with the people in front of his camera, this one is not. When I was looking at this book I could almost hear Vincent Peters directing the shoot. To me his directions were more about fluff, artifice and trickery than about genuine connections and emotions I could hear him say, "hold this scarf in front of your face" or "look into the mirror". Oddly enough even though this book is mostly women his photos of the men are more interesting. He seems to have more of a connection with men and some of their personality manages to shine through the artifice. Technically, he is very good and shoots in the old time Hollywood style of George Hurrell but there are only so many pictures of women looking in mirrors or standing with their dresses puddled at their feet that a human can look at before getting bored.

Vincent Peters.
