Opticron 40909 HR2 MM2 Eyepiece 13-39x for Mighty Midget Telescopes

At the current price, this eyepiece is a great buy. At the most wide angle, you are able to hand hold the Mighty Midget since the magnification is 12x. Image is really bright and sharp too. Then if you find something, you can zoom in a small amount if you wish, although I find that it’s not really that necessary since hand shake becomes more obvious and the image be one’s a little duller. At full zoom, (39x) on a tripod, the image is duller on a Mighty Midget in comparison to a full blown, bigger telescope, but it’s perfectly usable, and again, it’s sharp. So this eyepiece can be used handheld or tripod mounted for a really close view which makes your telescope more versatile. The fitting is slightly different to my other eyepiece, but I suspect that it’s because I’m still using the original Mighty Midget from years ago. Yes, it fits the original and mk 2. It’s labelled as an MM2 lens but it still screws down onto the original. My old lens screws in on the inside of the body, but this one on the outside. (I prefer this one) The original Mighty Midget has a screw thread both inside and out. So this is fine on the original and second version. If the MM3 is the same as the MM2, then it fits them all. So, a great bit of kit at a really good price.

I have a Mighty Midget using a 22X eyepiece. It does what I expected and keep it with me when I don't want to use my much larger, and heavier scope. The Zoom has added a new dimension. Using the 13X magnification enables hand use for looking at birds in the garden where before the 22X was too powerful and not so clear in poor light conditions. The Mighty Midget is now obsolete and Opticron must have a shelf full of 40909 eyepieces left so they are giving them away with the new Image Stabilised MMS 160 Travelscope. It’s certainly a bargain to have a free eyepiece thrown in and the 40909 is good quality but all recent zoom eyepieces by Opticron have twist type eyecups that make viewing so much easier and comfortable. The 40909 doesn’t. That’s why it’s only a four star review, not five.

Great product.Shame it is a fold down eye piece.But for the price very good. Delivery spot on.

The original eyepiece for the opticron ‘Mighty Midget’ was small and uncomfortable to look through . This 13-39x eyepiece is much more powerful and more comfortable to use. I am really pleased with it ,the fact you can zoom in on your bird etc. makes viewing a pleasure.
