great classic movie
real plane flying is great

The G rating is a little surprising
It seems to be more like PG. All the themes and interactions are adult, there are some bloody wounds and one (very brief) close shot of Lorraine Stephens's bare breast. Christopher George is not at his best.

Wish the plane scenes had stood out more
Making a good airplane based war film is one of the most difficult. One of the big problems is making it realistic. The Thousand Plane Raid was made in 1969 which was to its benefit. That was because it was able to collect together some American B-17 bombers and mixed that in with color footage from World War II.The story is about Christopher George being a commander who plans a huge air raid upon Germany which requires precision by the units involved. To get that he rides his men harder and harder to the point where they all hate him. Thatโs the main thing you take away from the movie, you just remember what a jerk George was to his men. Thatโs actually a bit disappointing because the highlight should be the plane scenes. Theyโre good but they donโt stand out much.

Dated, to be taken with a grain of salt, but worthwhile if you like WWII aviation movies.
While this one takes a lot of liberties with reality, movies about the Mighty Eighth are pretty scarce and this one is like watching an extended episode of Twelve O'Clock High without the quality of a storyline of the latter. I don't know how I missed this one over the years, as I thought I'd seen every WWII movie out there. If you don't take this one too seriously, you'll enjoy it. Otherwise, if you want a cliff notes version of the air war with a heavy dosage of old war movie cliches, you'll have fun seeing how it all gets worked in here. Don'y set your expectations too high and realize that this one is typical of its era.

The Thousand Plane Raid
The basic theme of this movie, The 1000 Plane Raid, was a U.S. Army Air Force colonel convinced the Allies during World War II, that a daylight bombing raid of Germany will bring a quick end to the war. Christopher George, Laraine Stephens, J.D. Cannon and Gary Marshall - plus a host of other well-known actors were superb in their performance. I have read other reviews about the lack of detail due to a "Hollywood" presentation for the beginning of massive daylight bombing. That is so noted. However with the use of actual World War II movies in color - as well as the rest of the film - for the inexperienced viewer, this movie was an excellent introduction to basic information why such a military strategy became necessary.Hitler refused to sue for peace - he was a maniac who destroyed his own nation. This was one of many strategies used by the Allies of WW II, to shorten the war in Europe. I am pleased to have this vintage movie in my collection and give it 5 gold stars! The audio is good and the quality of the movie itself due to its age. I have seen several DVD movies and documentaries on such plane raids; but this movie gave me a basic introduction about the strategy. I was a field grade officer in the USAF and found it very instructive; that includes some of my military Veteran friends who watched it on my TV and arrived at the same conclusion.

Lame, sorry to say. Waste of time.
1. Acting? Stale and stunted.2. Drama? Next to none. Could have done much more with Archer actually doing something on the raid. Do something with the 3-gun front armament that was supposed to give the Jerries a "nasty surprise." Leave the girl out of it. Big distraction.3. Believable? Did not even try. No way would "Can Do" catch up to the group.4. Air scenes? Disappointing. Air to air against a paltry few fighters was pathetic.Watch "Memphis Belle" instead. It was factually way off the mark but had some nice depictions of the fear leading up to her 25th mission and pretty decent air scenes.

Air raid over Europe in World War ll
An air attack of a thousand B-17 bomber planes over a target in Germany during World War ll, is the plan. The Mirisch film stars Christopher George as Colonel Brandon, Laraine Stephens, J.D. Cannon, and Gary Marshall. The cast also includes stars Gavin McLeod, and Ben Murphy. This is a good movie, but since this was recorded for on demand in DVD-R, the picture and sound quality is not the best. This is because it did not use the DVD system which uses a variable transfer (bit)rate for its MPEG-2 data compression(encoding). The bit rate is the data transfer speed and refer to the amount of information that can be handled by the system in one second. The higher the bit rate, the larger the volume of information that can be tranfered or stored, and the higher quality of video image, as well as, sound can be handled. You can see digital artifacts in parts of movie, but otherwise a movie to watch.

A very hard to find film and I don't know why, well filmed with a decent story line. Not big on star names, but a damned good watch none the less.Dubbed into spanish but with the original sound track selectable in the menu and english sub titles if required
