Chromatic Harmonica

A must have book for beginners and advanced players.
Tommy Morgan's book has been more help to me as a learner of the chromatic harmonica than all my other books. Okay, he doesn't present complete tunes, but his exercises are excellent and he has a way of sneaking in occasional traps to trip the over-eager learner -- I've paid much more for Chromatic Harmonica books and learned a lot less. Learning with this book is a long-term project, but returning to the earlier lessons is a great boost to a flagging morale when you feel yourself losing your way. Thank you for the music dictionary in the back pages. I may yet master this difficult instrument, or have a lot of fun trying, Tommy Morgan. Absolute beginner, James Verran.

Learn the Notes
Of five harmonica books I have, this is the only one that provides a chart listing the different Hohner chromatic harmonicas ALONG WITH THE NOTE NAMES CORRESPONDING TO THE HOLES. This feature alone makes it my go-to book when I practice everyday. Knowing which notes come from which hole (blow and draw) will allow me to play almost any solo part in any key. On Amazon.com you can "open" the book and see the chart. This is what sold me on the book, and I would have paid the asking price for this chart alone.

Big Help Getting It Going
A lot of help getting me started so I felt I was doing more correctly than guessing my way through. Made everything go faster and I felt like I was getting somewhere. A good resource with clear information that is usable. I think its worth the money.Happy Harpin.ANS

By an adult for adults
Excellent book, particularly if you already play another instrument and don't need a lot of handholding. Accurate, to the point, no nonsense. A relief after stumbling through happy talk "dummies" style books. Nice overview of specialty harmonicas, too, like chord and bass models.

Chromatic Harmonica
If one starts at the beginning of harmonica playing this is a great book to launch that endeavor. It arrived in perfect condition and in the specified time period.

Five Stars
Great instructional book for me as a beginner on chromatic harmonica.

very basic and crude publication. not for pros
not for professionals. starts with basic music theory. photos are inconsistent and mostly too dark and not helpful. Book doesn't get into any extended chords until the end, and no tips for soloing or taking advantage of the unique properties of the instrument. Very disappointed. Mel Bay Jazz Harmonica book is much much better.

Not impressed.
This book makes reference to awards 50 years ago and sure appears to have been written 50 years ago. Poor graphics and pages appears to have been photocopies of photocopies of photocopies etc. Very disappointed and would not recommend!

Not very helpful
Disappointing. I have taken up the harmonica again after about 60 years, and thought I'd go all the way and try a chromatic. This book is a real hotch-potch of practical tips mixed in with a lot of unnecessary information. The actual chromatic exercises are very poor, and the book doesn't contain any recognisable tunes, so I think I'll have to try elsewhere, or content myself with playing by ear.
