Galco Kodiak Hunter Shoulder Holster (Dark Havana Brown)

It took me FOREVER and a day to find a Holster to carry a scoped RSBH "HUNTER" .44 7.5 inch. I called Galco and they said this model would work for my pistol and priced it out at $199.99 before shipping and tax etc. I then found the correct model number on Amazon and ordered it up saving approximately 25% and it arrived just a few days later, On to the Holster itself, this is top shelf stuff people, im more than pleased with the quality of this holster My Gun fits it snug (of course its new and needs broke in) but it fits snug and solid (zero play) the thumb strap goes directly over the hammer so there is no chance of a accidental discharge while wearing this rig, Once you snap the thumb strap open you dont have to draw OUT the pistol, you draw UP & Out making it much, much easier to pull your scoped weapon.. i wouldnt call it fast draw but if your sitting in a hunting stand its going to allow you to remove you pistol with overall less movement. Yes most of the entire lenght of the top of this holster is open to accomidate a scoped pistol, of course it can be used without a scope but thats half the price of this particular holster is your buying a holster designed to hold a scoped pistol, The pistol basically drops into the top of the holster and by fastening the thumb break your securing the weapon from a possible fall out. The leather used in the making is very dark and smooth, Its very attractive. the shoulder strap has a nice piece of leather incorperated into it so its not just nylon riding across your shoulder.. speaking of the nylon straps they are exceptionally long, All you BIG men have no fear there is plenty of strap.. im 6 foot 180lbs and had to tighten the straps down almost all the way for this to fit me...Mind you durring hunting season im going to be wearing alot of gear and the extra girth of my coveralls etc will take up some space. Im very much looking forward to hunting season this year so i can wear this rig and put it to good use. Yes, you can go to your local outfitters and buy a more universal nylon holster for $50.00 or less but you not getting the quality of this holster, or the open top for you scope. any Hunter with a big pistol looking for a quality rig to tote there weapon could do a lot worse than this. I highly recomend this holster/torso rig.7/10/13 I mounted a bushnell Elite pistol scope to my RSBH today and of course test fit it in the holster directly after for propper fit. FANTASTIC.. absolutely zero problems, (although a fair warning) make sure when installing scope that your giving the end of the scope enuff clearance. Im completely satisfied with this holster and am very much looking forward to season.

This holster was a little on the expensive side but when I received it, it was a piece of art work this holster was beautiful. Every stitch was in the right place and the finish was spotless. It needed broken in per the instructions and now fits my Smith & Wesson Performance Center model 629-7 (44 mag) perfectly. The 7.5" barrel with the recoil reducer on the end takes the barrel length to 8 inches and the gun fits flush with the end of the holster and looks great. The pistol has a Burris 2x pistol scope on the rail and fits in the holster well with the full open top. If your looking for a rugged well built great looking holster you found it. Good hunting

Very enjoyable to own and use for my S&W 629 with a 7.5 inch barrel and red dot. It's not a small revolver, but carrying it in the position this holster calls for is very comfortable and allows for pretty unrestricted body motion. Breaking it in, I shoveled a lot of snow with the holster and gun strapped under my jacket. Like all new leather holsters, it squeaks a bit while new. Once I put some talcum powder in the right spots, the squeak and visible talcum powder disappeared. The quality of this holster is first rate. Perfect both aesthetically and functionally. (Note, the 7.5 inch revolver in the photo has a compensator built into muzzle, so the front sight sits over an inch or more further back than normal).

The straps were connected to the wrong anchor points on the holster out of the package. I thought I was going to have to return it as I could not make it fit right. When I compared it to the diagram and made some corrections it made sense. Having my wife make the adjustments with it on me was a helpful tip and avoided multiple donnings and doffings. I was also very pleased that the strap lengths were plenty big, in fact, I will have to trim some off as they are over 1 foot too long even though I am a big guy and I wear it outside several layers and a thick hunting jacket. I was worried about the barrel length with the description stating 8 3/8 but my 7 1/2 inch barreled Smith and Wesson PC .44 Mag (N frame) fit well. I may have to get a scope for it now as I can see how it will fit in the holster as the top is open. If the tip didn't fit in the end, the snap is the only other thing holding my revolver in from the top. It is a little more than I wanted to spend but the holster leather quality is excellent as is the snap. The straps are nylon which seems odd with the quality and beauty of the holster but probably needed to make adjustments and enable the plastic quick release connections. I am very happy with it.

A true custom fit for my S&W 629 PC with 8 3/8” bbl. and Romeo5 Red Dot sight. The quality of this holster has to be seen and felt to be appreciated. Some reviews mention a fitment issue with the front sight but there is adequate clearance in my case. This holster has heirloom quality that’s worth every penny. Tks

Bought this cause it said it would fit my S&W 500, it will not fit my 500!!!!

My Ruger New Super Blackhawk Hunter 44mag with a 7.5" barrel topped with a burris handgun scope fits nice and snug. The fit was a little tight at first but broke in real well. I have a 58" chest and the shoulder straps were more than big enough. I can were the holster outside my hunting jacket and still be comfortable. I would recommend this holster for anyone with a large scoped hand gun.

I really like the holster but for hunting it is way to shiny I'm very pleased with it other wise I think it will alert the deer or other critters I might come in contact with.I don't know if I can do any thing to make it less shiny?
