Macross: The Super Dimension Fortress [Japan Import]

This isn't just a great Macross game. This is one of those games that's so good that some people are likely to consider it the greatest game they have ever played. Why you ask?Well for starters it's an arcade space combat game made by SEGA. It's in the style of a Namco game like Ace Combat, but without the throttle control and target select (and instead a super-easy transformation).The graphics are pure SEGA arcade. There's full Japanese Voice Acting (complete with talking heads both in the briefings and missions!) and it's REALLY good voice acting. I just wish there were English subs.Speaking of English, all the menus are in English (except for the save prompts) so you'll have a really easy time navigating the game (no need to worry about getting lost in menus).The sound effects are perfect as expected. The controls are tight. The gameplay is superb. The levels are incredibly fun.While you're going to see some similarities with Ace Combat, you'll probably going to be reminded more of SEGA games like After Burner. You don't lock on and fire missiles, you spam the missile fire button while targeting enemies. You don't get enemies in your cross-hairs and then squeeze off a few rounds, you target enemies and then wail on them Macross-style.The only flaw I've found is that it would be nice to have a throttle control instead of just a boost, and it's too easy to accidentally change the camera using the digital pad. Other than that...This is the game I bought a Japanese PlayStation 2 for. I've tried to play it in the past but am finally now able to using a full Japanese PlayStation 2, and it's a killer app. It is worth buying a Japanese PlayStation 2 just to play this game.If you love Macross, you need to own this game. It just might be your favorite PlayStation 2 game, or ever your favorite game, period.

Anyone that loved Robotech, needs to get their own copy of this game.

北朝鮮の核ミサイルが脅威と化し、不安のなか、何かできないものかと考えて、とりあえずバルキリーくらいは操作できないかと思い、値段も中古で安かったので試しに買ってみました。攻略ポイントやスキルがないうちはなかなか難しいですが、ガンダムよりも操作性はよかったです。慣れてくるとクリアまでテレビ版は12章で２～３時間。映画版はテレビ版よりも難しくなっていて８章で２～３時間てところでしょうか。映画版でラスボスが出現します。なかなかよくまとまっていたので楽しめました！ストーリーモードで機体を変更できなかったのとプレイ中仲間がアドバイスをするのは良かったが、あれこれうるさかったのが残念。

まず操作した感じはマクロスらしい動きが出来るということです。ファイター形態からガウォークに変形して急制動をかけたり、バトロイドで狙い撃ちなどできます。各形態の操作方法が違う為、慣れるまでは時間がかかりますが、慣れたらこっちのものでフィールドを縦横無尽に変形を駆使しながら戦う事ができます。難易度はそれほど高くなく一部難しい面もありましたが、嫌になる程難しいものでもないです。また最初の選択肢で2通りのストーリーが楽しめるようになっています。問題はボリュームですかね。大体10時間もあれば全面クリアできると思います。操作に慣れてきた頃に終わってしまうので、少々物足りなさを感じました。マクロスのゲームとしては初代をフィーチャ―した物で、マクロスのその後のシリーズには触れてはいません。サウンドテストでミンメイの曲が聴けたりと、ファンなら懐かしく感じると思います。ただゲーム内容はもう少しボリュームが有ったほうが良かったですね。

ロボットゲーム的な操作や演出は最近のPS4では見られない楽しさがありますね。
