Freeform Knitting and Crochet (Milner Craft Series)

From the creative patterns to the detailed stitch instructions, I found this book to be one of the most comprehensive freeform crocheting and knitting books available right not. This book is not only for freeformers but for anyone who appreciates crochet work and creating individual projects. It addresses the fear people have of giving into their "creative" sides. Everything is presented in a logical format without too much "over your shoulder" instruction. Even if you have never tried or heard of freeform crochet, you will be inspired to take your craft into the most wonderful direction.

This book is amazing with its ideas! However, I would have to say it is definitely for an Intermediate or Advance Knitter/Crocheter. Wouldn't recommend it for a beginner of either craft as it might be a bit too intimidating for a beginner to comprehend. But for those who have the basic understanding of stitches and following a pattern, this book is a wonderful experience to create your own tasteful masterpieces!!! Worth getting!!!

Although I really, REALLY love the idea, I probably wouldn't wear a good majority of the "freeformed" items I see out there... I know for certain i'd probably never wear anything IN this book. I'm not so sure I'd expect anyone else to, either (for me it brings to mind a certain type of older woman with a lot of jewelry and, well, very "colorful" attire).However, the technique itself is amazing and if you're wanting to learn it, learn it from the master - it could be applied to all sorts of amazing projects. I'm happy I bought this book (even if, back when i bought it, i had to search high and low for a copy and felt all cool because I finally found it - and it was from Australia!)

Great book. Great patterns.

I read the earlier reviews on this book and knowing Jenny Dowde's reputation and work, I bought it without hesitation. I consider myself a beginner, and after messing around to see what I could do with my scraps, wanted something to help me make more "wearable art". But this is not the book for that. Readers who know any color theory will be disappointed at the depth of that section. And while the construction techniques were helpful, they didn't address making complex garments. I love Jenny Dowde, but this book didn't help me to do something more than I would have attempted before I read it.I certainly feel out of sync with the other reviewers, many of whom sound very experienced. I think it would be excellent choice for anyone who hesitates to begin a project that isn't all planned out - Dowde is an excellent teacher. And perhaps Freeform Knitting requires more changes to your normal methods than Freeform Crochet. But I would not recommend this book to anyone who crochets, feel comfortable experimenting on their own after looking at pictures on-line, and wants a book to help them make more finished and complex garments.

This is a great book for those who are slightly advanced in crochet. Very good instructions if you want to freeform and make something entirely unique.
