Great ball heads!
These mini ball heads are fantastic! They have the full range of motion of a normal ball head mount, and they're STRONG. I can't force the mount to move once I've locked it down. There are a couple of small drawbacks. These do not have an intermediate "friction" setting where there is enough resistance to hold the mount steady, but you can still move it with some effort. The mounts are either "on" (rigid) or "off" (totally loose). You can kind of, sort of, put some friction on the movement if you tighten the thumb screw JUST right, but it's very difficult and isn't intended to do that.Secondly, the mount body will rotate 360 degrees. Nice! You normally don't get that feature in a mini ball head. Unfortunately, the one thumbscrew controls both the body rotation, and locks/unlocks the position of the ball head. So, in order to rotate the mount, you have to unlock the position of the ballhead, and your camera will go all floppy while you rotate the mount.

The Best
Unlike some others, ie. "Neewer" the stem and ball of these are made of steel. So the movement is smooth with none of the galling that aluminum is known for. In addition, an aluminum stem needs to be thicker to compensate for the inherent weakness of aluminum. As a consequence, the range of movement is limited. The aluminum stem will eventually fatigue and fail, and the ball will deform due to softness. The body is aluminum. In fairness, the all aluminum varieties may be just a bit lighter. So if weight is a priority choose aluminum.

Bought to hold USB mic and smartphone mounts
It looks like overkill but when I shoot desktop video, I like switching quickly between heights and angles. I have several mic stands and goosenecks with phone holders. I picked these ball heads up for a little more flexibility when getting the right angle. They lock down pretty well... not 100%, but pretty good. For the price in this 4-pack of $3.50 per ball head, it's a good deal.Have to admit, I'm not 100% sure about the lower collar with the hex screw. What exactly does this do?In any case, these are reasonable for the price.

Solid but chunky
Nice solid design. The device works like a vice in which you place the phone and tighten the upper screw until you feel resistance. While the grip is very secure I would suggest a good silicone or rubber phone case to protect the phone itself from overzealous tightening and damaging the phone. The holder is not light. Weighing about three ounces it noticeably adds to whatever you are already holding in your arm and to the overall weight of your luggage if traveling.

Good enough
Not the best quality construction, but good enough for light-duty use.

Good quality and great price
Love it. Good quality- sticks a little bit but still easily manageable. Maybe a little rub with WD-40 May do the trick- still not 100% necessary.

Not bad
Not bad for a cheap ball head. I did take some 500-grit sandpaper to the inside to make is much smoother. But if you are using it for set and forget, then they are fine.
