Great Device - with only ONE drawback.
Very Nice Extender. It's Cheap, it work and it's easy to configure. Nothing fancy here, just availability to extend the network. The one CON - If you're a network person you'll soon find that with this device once you've configured it as an extender, the INTRANET(legacy network) is no longer accessible. Even if you configure a route back to that network, the range Extender's WAN IP becomes an IP address on the legacy network. All devices that attach this extender, will recieve either a Class B or Class C address(whatever you want) and cannot be on the same subnet as it's WAN IP - other extenders dont take that approach, so it's strange to see this device does.otherwise, your guests can have access to the internet, but will have no access to the rest of the network. Works great if you wish to run as ISOLATED AP....it seems to be like this by default, which is fine in my case, but could pose a problem if the clients connecting to it, needs to touch the legacy network.

When working it's awesome, when not it is frustrating
In general it's a pretty OK router except for one really troublesome issue. Sometimes it will cease to provide internet access either via LAN or WIFI and instead display the config page for the router. To get around this, you have to1. Shut off your modem and your router2. Power back on the modem.... wait until it's completely rebooted and online,3. Power on your router and wait4. Click advanced settings5. Click Clone Mac Address6. Click OK, wait for router to "reboot"7. Power off the router again8. Power back on the router. This works most of the time but sometimes following this for an unknown reason you'll have to do this several times in a row.I don't understand why this the only router I have ever had that this happens to (probably had about 10-12 in my life including a previous MediaLink router I was totally satisfied with - worked great for about 3-4 years and just became unreliable - but totally satisfied with that one)

Still loving it ! ..... ps Sit on it trolls !
This is my second Medialink router I purchased so this is more of an update from my previous review from Sept. 2013 . I purchased this second unit to have on hand in case the first one died as wifi routers are known to do in my case , we've went through several brands with varying life spans , the longest being roughly 9 months the shortest being ( no kidding ) 1 hour . So with my first router passing its first birthday with us I figured I'd play it safe and have its replacement on hand . The first router was still working fine but started needing an occasional reboot , once or twice a month , sometimes more . Well I installed this one and everything went smoothly , I thought , but I couldn't connect to the signal . So I looked to the instructions and dialed up the customer service number and got the shock of my life , a real person answered the phone ! , at first I thought I'd dialed the wrong number but he assured me that I hadn't . So I explained my situation and he replied " No problem " ( What ! No script ! Who are these people ! Why aren't more companies doing this ! ) . So within 5 minutes and probably 5 mouse clicks I was up and running again . It seems that our modem was still thinking it was the old router and not recognizing the new one . I don't understand all the bad comments , and personally I don't care . I've had nothing but luck with these guys and would have no regrets recommending this router and this company . Thank you Medialink .

Wow!
Been using apple routers for years, because I considered them to be the gold standard, but no more. Replaced my apple router with this model, and my internet speed is noticeably faster! This particular purchase was an used (open box) from amazon warehouse deals (indistinguishable from new), so I first performed a hard reset (button on the back). Like most routers, requires a wired connection for initial setup. Checked my computer and found out that the router's ip address is 192.168.8.1 (slightly different from most routers), and then setup was super easy, It comes with a setup cd, which might be useful for somebody who's never setup a router before, but it would have done nothing for me. After setup, I power cycled my cable modem, and everything is working great! Vertical design saves space, and the power adapter is very compact. Big LED status lights can be seen from across the room. So it's better than apple, and costs much less. Of course, apple routers have the ability to network a usb printer or usb drive, but if you don't need those features, you're better off with Medialink. I assume folks don't know about this brand, because if they did, it would be the best-selling router!
