I love this information that has been so thoroughly researched for this book and what makes it so special is that it comes from an unlikely source. I can use this for my church in our mission education and Christian education for the black church. It also it a great resource and reference for the community as well.

Highly recommended
Thoroughly researched, informative, and interesting. I really had no idea there was such a vibrant African-American culture during the time of slavery. Such great insight into where modern day cultural trends originated.

Entertaining read but not fashion history
A wonderful read. The authors have a great writing style that pulls you in and offers some humor as well. This is not, however, a fashion book. It is a discussion about how African American's showed off their clothing or wore their hair throughout history. It is about the places or the why but not much about the styles that were worn. There are some descriptive quotes but in general, if you want to know about the specific fashions this is not the book for you. I enjoyed reading it but I will have to look elsewhere for more fashion history.
