As someone who is 22 years old, senior in college and having a dream of starting a company one day, this book not only gave me the right guide on how to think, how to judge and what to do at the entrepreneurial world. The Belsito's book also inspired me and put my imagination on fire, imagining even more things that I was never able to think about!Before this book, I already have had experience starting a company in May 2013, now almost two years ago. If somebody made over 100 mistakes in this process, than that was me! As 20 years old at that point, coming from another country (Serbia), I was seeing many opportunities in U.S., but I was not able to think clearly. Too many people around me, all of them with "fantastic" connections and even better opinions. I admit, I made some poor judgement and did some really stupid things.However, if I had this book, this "little: thing in my hands, I believe that I would have had different thoughts in head and a different past. Mike Belsito is using that one-on-one narrative style where he writes as he would talk to me, or any other person who reads this book. This entrepreneurial art piece will become your mentor after only few pages. Before I read his book, I had that feeling of being confused about the terms, rules, types of investors, right choices and other things. However, now I feel like I have gained all these years of experience that he lived through. What a grateful gift from a husband, father and an entrepreneur, who actually found times to help other people to be successful too!I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO EVER WANTED TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS, BUT ALSO TO ANYONE WHO ALREADY STARTED ONE. I have been in entrepreneurial world close to a decade both internationally and in the US. The literature and the experiences have been always Silicon Valley biased. Thus, reading this book and hearing the author’s story were worthwhile to confirm my points of view. Highly recommend to first time entrepreneurs.

I recently came across Mike Belsito, because we're authors in a similar space. Note I spoke with three other authors in this space who are coming out with books this year (like I am) and many gave me the cold shoulder... I won't name names - but you won't see their books on my recommended list like Mike's is. I read Mike''s book Startup Seed Funding for the Rest of Us: How to Raise Million for Your Startup - Even Outside of Silicon Valley in a single sitting and was nodding my head and saying "exactly" over and over again.The things Mike talks about in his book feels like a repeat of every entrepreneur coffee I've ever had... how should I think about funding my business, what are investors looking for, but what if I'm not in the 'valley'. Mike nails most of these on the head! These are fundamental problems that every entrepreneur, especially first time entrepreneurs face... When should you raise capital? before or after traction? How should you raise capital? What does a business look like that raises capital? What is a value-add investor anyway?Mike covers all of these and many more in his book plus the website with free resources.

I'm located outside Silicon Valley, actually outside of USA, and this new approach provided by Mike, it's a fresh way to understand the founding process for a startup not matter where we are located. Most important is that, through the reading there are key information about all the founding stages as comments and examples provided by key investor and entrepreneurs that gives you valuable insights.When you start reading the book, you think the book will give some recipes to get easy money, but more than that, you will discover even more than only get funds for your startup.

Based on the reviews, I thought this books would be a standout in a topic dominated by mostly Silicon Valley people. Unfortunately, very little of this book was noteworthy. Most of it was practical advice: Make coffee dates; Build a prototype first; Close the round. The highlights: entrepreneur interviews. Typos were a little distracting.

I read most of the book and while I think it would be a great read for someone that hasn't had any experience at all in a startup / getting funding, having had the experience, I found a lot of what I read to be redundant. Worth the purchase though if you are brand new to the scene. I'd suggest buying it before you get started with your startup.

Mike's story is enough to make this book a worthwhile read. But I really appreciated that he went to the effort of listening to other people's stories so we could get a range of perspectives. The idea of trying to raise a million dollars confounds a lot of people, me included, but I think this book does a great job in demonstrating strategies for doing so. There is no formula because there are too many variables, but after reading this you should have the perspective you need to get where you want and faster, too. Highly recommended.

I love the honesty of this author and his personal, clear concise story telling method of conveying the topics. I learned while traveling through his story. While his story didnt end as well as he planned, being honest about that sold me on this book more than anything. Sometimes you have to understand how people failed in order for you to be successful. Good Book!!
