Steady build-up to an amazing finish
In Sophie, we have a teenage girl who just wants a normal teenage life. Except she can control the elements and must keep that part of herself from her non-powered friends. As the plot takes her out of her comfortable, mostly normal world, she struggles to find herself. This character journey is woven into a plot that builds to an exciting crescendo at the end of the book. Leaving you amazed at the journey the author has taken you on. And ready to pre-order Book 2.

Good start with room to grow.
The concept behind the storyline is very intriguing and I like the idea of Elementals. I find it interesting that the strength in power seems to lie within females. I also like that Sophie, the female Main Character, already knows what she is, and is training for an eventual position as a guardian. This is a nice deviation from the norm of a main character learning that they have powers, and they they’re special. However, Sophie isn’t allowed to train with her powers because the EA, the governing body for elementals, are very strict about using magic due to exposure.Although I found the premise interesting, it was really hard to get into this book. It moves slowly and the language is very verbose. We spend most of the book listening to superfluously detailed descriptions about unimportant things and the storyline gets snagged in spots because of this. It loses its flow and I get bored. Also, I found Sophie very frustrating. At first when we meet her, she seems mature and focused, but she isn’t. Not at all. Weirdly, as much as she supports the EA she is also aggressively against a lot of their rules and restrictions. I get teenage rebellion under strict rules, but Sophie takes it too far. Despite numerous warnings and her own acknowledgement of her poor choices, she continues to do it, putting herself and others at risk repeatedly. She also doesn’t appear to learn from her mistakes, and continually makes very idiotic choices, resulting in disastrous outcomes.I enjoyed the supporting characters a lot more. Lena is naive but more mature and sweet. Aiden is by far my favorite. He is very mature, focused, dedicated, and intelligent. He is only a year older than Sophie, but has to clean up her messes and cover for her constantly. The chemistry between Sophie and Aiden is extremely palpable and although I love the feels, I am not currently a fan of Sophie because she is so far from Aiden’s level. The information we receive at the end makes the book a lot more interesting but we have to slog through the rest to get to it. Sophie has a ton of room to grow and mature in the series and for her sake I really hope she does, because the book ends on a cliffhanger and she better step up

Great young reader read
Wow! What an exciting new series Jessica Ruddick has started with her new book, Undefined! This series promises to be a hit among young readers as well as those of us who are beyond the young reader stage of our lives . . .I am new to the elemental genre of novel, having avoided them most of my life because I didn’t want to get into werewolves and sci-fI and all that stuff. However, I found the world of elementals interesting and was delighted that it was not scary! As a former high school teacher, it also brought back so much about the social aspects of what teenagers deal with during their high school arms—the clicks, the mean girls, the parties and peer pressures, sports, etc. and, of course, first love is so much a part of growing up. When Sophie and Aiden finally acknowledge their attraction, will it be too late? What does Sophie learn about her heritage that makes her question her existence? How does she use her powers for good and selfish purposes before learning the significance of her actions? And, finally, what will happen when evil threatens her adopted sister?

Undefined
Exciting! A thrilling supernatural story full of magic and mayhem. I loved the characters! They were enjoyable to read. I felt like I was right there with them in the story experiencing it as they were. I really enjoyed the chemistry and the budding relationship between Aiden and Sophie. The story set up a good build up of this new elemental world and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

Being an Elemental has its pros and cons
I volunteered to read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and to submit an honest review.Undefined is an excellent Paranormal book that is based on Elementals. Females are more powerful than males. Sophie is one of the main characters and struggles with trying to keep her abilities a secret while also trying to have a normal dating life. This is an excellent paranormal read.

Magical start to a new paranormal series!
I've never read anything with elementals before, and I really loved the powers the characters in this book possess and display. Aidan was a great hero, protective and super-hot. Sophie was easy to relate to and pull for, and her story just gets more and more interesting the more you learn about her and her past. I found it fresh and captivating, a fascinating journey into a new paranormal world with a slow-burn love story that makes the atmosphere crackle with electricity.
