Love, Peace and Joy: Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus According to Saint Gertrude: Thirty Chapters for a Month Devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

I loved this book, written by the Very Reverand Andre Prevot of the Society of Priests of the Heart of Jesus about "St. Gertrude the Great" whose feast day is Nov. 16 on the Church Calendar. St. Gertrude is called “The Herald of Divine Love” by Jesus who told her he wishes her to be so. It is apparently true in the very beautiful mystic, intimate visions and revelations (recorded in her book called Revelations) given her directly by Jesus, almost 400 years before those given to St. Margaret Mary Alaquoque. Jesus first revealed to Gertrude his desire for a special devotion to his Sacred Heart springing from the depth of his love for mankind. If you have, or would like to have an even greater devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, you will love it too. Having read both books, I find they confirm each other, although St. Gertrude's is of a more mystic nature, as noted by Tann books. Reverand Prevot arranges her revelations into a 30 day format, to which he adds his own very thoughtful insights.St. Gertrude, an “illustrious Benedictine Abbess”, was born in 1263 and was a contemporary of great saint scholars and mystics such as St. Albert the Great, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Clare, St. Bonaventure and Thomas Acquinas. Though she is considered one of the greatest saints of the Church, and is well known in France, she is not well known here. However, the “Prayer of St. Gertrude” IS fairly well known. This prayer is attributed to her, but not found in any of her writings. It is not difficult reading and not too long. Enjoy it, as I did, and you too will want to read it again and again!

This book's short chapters are just the right length to fuel a Holy Hour or a time of personal meditation. They not only present the lofty revelations of Our Lord to St. Gertrude, in a methodical sequence, but helpfully provide succinct "considerations" and points for practical application.

This book should be read by everyone trying to initiate some sort of interior life. Anyone with regrets or feeling inadequate should read this book. This book inspires a great confidence in the mercy of the Sacred heart. Nothing is impossible with the Sacred Heart. One learns so much in this book regarding the mystical body and our role in the mystical body. St. Gertrude brings to us the secrets of love, peace, and joy and a road to sanctity easily accessible to all!

This little book is a treasure of inspiring quotes, lessons and teachings for those who wish to grow in love and devotion to the Sacred Heart. St. Gertrude is taught by the great Teacher and shares what she has learned from Him. I have learned much and been unable to put it down. It is beautiful. I recommend it to any Christian who loves Jesus and wants to grow in that love and devotion.

The book provides me with some of the insights into spirituality from this Saint I was looking for. Of course no one book or one saint gives you all that your heart wants - but its good.

Disappointed that the section on confession is missing. I have attached a photo of the table of contents, it ends with day 30 of the devotion. The bought the book only for the part on a good confession otherwise the same book is available in Bangalore for 40 rupees.Ends on page 223 but book is supposed to have 251 pages.
