This is a must have item for me
I have been frustrated with the cap that came with the Big Green Egg for some time and finally purchased this product a week ago. I used it for the first time last night and was very pleased up to a point. I cook in a very windy area and this vent cap seemed to offer more consistent temperature control compared to the stock cap, and is Very Easy to adjust. The problem showed up once I finished cooking and wanted to replace the vent cap with the ceramic cap to stop the fire. There is no way to remove the hot cap without mitts so I closed the vents completely and it seemed to put out the fire just fine. Very nice product and should be easy to clean after a long cook.3 YEARS LATER!This product has worked flawlessly for three years now. I just cleaned it again after quite a few very long cooks and it still works and looks great. I was impressed with the fact that even after being scrubbed with scotch brite pads it look brand new. You will not regret buying this, dismiss my comment above about removing it when hot, just clean it once a year and leave it on the Egg.

Should Be a Standard BGE Accessory
Frankly, I can't believe BGE hasn't coopted this design for themselves. First of all, it is made of two pieces of stainless steel that fit very nicely together. It has both the look and feel of a quality product, and is backed up by the tight fit of the two pieces that represent the chimney cap. It comes with a strip of sticky padded tape, and I chose to line the ceramic BGE chimney with it and slide the lower stainless piece into place. The top stainless cap then slides nicely over the base and forms a tight fit. I prefer this stainless version over the cast iron cap (that came with the Egg) since it doesn't rust, and is more precise/flexible in terms of the openings to help control temperature. It has three (3) wide openings in the top cap that open almost 3" each, and they work from fully open to fully closed seamlessly. I just finished roasting/smoking a 15Lb Thanksgiving turkey in the BGE, and was very satisfied with the stainless chimney cap and its function. When done, I just slide al of the vents closed (top and bottom of the BGE) and this saves the lump charcoal. One small note - the BGE weather cover still fits nicely on the EGG, but doesn't snug down on the stainless chimney cap as it does on the porcelain cap. Still fits, but it sticks up a bit.

Pricey, but well made.
The Smokeware chimney cap immediately adds a little 'sparkle' to your Egg, and is functional as well. It looks better than the black, wrought iron cap provided by BGE. It always bothered me that the 'daisy wheel' part of that vent would spin off to one side or the other whenever you lifted the lid of the Egg, and then you have to reset it. The Smokeware vented cap eliminates that issue, plus allows you to use the Egg in the rain....something I never do anyway since mine is mounted is a custom-made wood table. But it's nice to know I have that option now.Smokeware's cap is well made, looks sharp, is a bit pricey (nearly $50), but it was easy to install. The instructions are clear, easy to follow. Once I had the gasket (included) in place, the cap slid right on and stayed put. Looks much better than the black vent that comes with the Egg.

Great upgrade for my BGE
This is a great solution for better heat control on the BGE. It is well designed and constructed and has worked fabulously in a large range of temperatures. Some have noted that the cap will come loose which is true, it is two separate pieces which means it can be removed for very high heat applications. Mine is as tight as the OEM iron cap was and i have not had any issues with it slipping while in use. My only complaint is that my cover is very tightly measured so it requires a little care to lift off with this unit in place. This is more of an issue with the cover than anything but it may be something for buyers to think about. This is my second Smkeware accessory and they are both built very well. I'm sure I will buy more of their products as time goes on

Yep, the hype is accurate. Another must have for your BGE, Primo or Komoda Joe. More air control and a 6 star cool factor.
I've waited until Fall to review this product in order to give it a chance. Yes it rates a 6 in cool looks factor. It certainly looks better on my large BGE than the dopey daisy wheel cap they include. Ever seen one of those cast iron daisy wheel caps after a few years? Rusty and ugly. It seems to have better air adjustment and you can adjust it without a burning your fingers or using a mitt. I thought it would discolor quickly with some of the high heats I use or with the LONG low & slow roasting I do sometimes. But it hasn't discolored much at all. (pic's attached - as you can see the cap is not "cleaned up" and hasn't been since installed this spring) I've had this up into the 600+ range several times, although the cap is usually off at the really high temp's. But there have been several 4-6 hour long cooks with the Smokeware cap in place & I thought it wouldn't be purty anymore, but it is. Must be a really high grade stainless steel. TIP: I had a seal where my BGE daisy wheel cap goes on, but still added the included seal they provide beside the other for a nice tight fit. The cap itself is removable leaving the base mounted if you want.Only reason for the lack of 5 stars is the construction that makes it so versatile seems to allow a bit of air flow even when closed all the way down. Doesn't seem to snuff the fir as fast, but it might be my imagination. Obviously you can simply remove the Smokewear (with heat gloves of course) and put on the BGE snuff cap. That is what I do to be sure its snuffing the coals. I may do a more reliable test of its coal snuffing ability because it would be nice to leave it on permanently. Also i realize a name branding is important, but the "Smokeware" logo is more prominent on my BGE than the more modest Big Green Egg name branding on the grill. Maybe a logo less prominent and on the side of the cap? Still I wouldn't be without it now. It's one of those things you don't know you need until you have it. Wish I could give 4.5 stars.

Primo fits!
My only hesitation in buying it was that I couldn’t confirm if it fits a Primo. Perfect fit, no double wrap even (often required for Primos own caps)Stays on very snug, never adjusts when opening the lid and very easy to adjust

Fits and operates perfect on the L-BGE.
Item arrived very fast from Amazon (free standard shipping). Only got to use it once so far, but operates as expected. The gasket is cut to the EXACT circumference of the Big Green Egg - so there is no room for error. It will take some experimenting to find the proper positioning of the vents for temperature control.

Great for the rain
The good quality is apparent - still looks great after many uses. It keeps rain off the charcoal. Once complaint is about the small rubber tab on the rotating component. When the chimney is hot from cooking it gets very soft and easily falls off - I expect it will be lost in the near future. Other than that this is a great product.
