Avoid if you have smart rats!
You know who you are. Through successive generations of infestation and eradication the rattus norvegicus in my area know some things about traps and such. Sure the snap trap reigns king with the live trap in second place while poison is hit or miss. You can really only tell by the smell.None of these trusted methods were working. At all. No matter what combination I tried. I was very frustrated. I have a reputation to uphold. In my mind of course. If I had it my way they would all go in the live trap. It's one of those metal cage-like devices. Plenty of room. We have other good animals and I don't want them getting hurt. Besides rats it has managed to catch a couple squirrels. Once caught they do avoid it. The cat did not like it at all. Never saw it again. An opossum. Same one twice. They're not very smart. And just last week a racoon that just about filled the thing up. And perhaps a bird or two. Not sure how they sprung the mechanism. Rabbits? Rabbits are too cool. That's about the inventory of wildlife in my part of suburbia. Some of my rats spread out in the neighborhood after I took down the bird feeders. A crazier squirrel decided even the hummingbird feeder made a tasty snack so that was made squirrel-proof. An opportunistic opossum took to licking the deck where the hummingbird nectar dripped. That was actually kind of sad to watch, but I was strong and didn't put anything out for it.So one of my neighbors suddenly had a rat problem. The neighbors come to me for rat advice. I'm King Rat I guess.Anyway, this neighbor says she had great luck with the Cadrim live trap. On the first try! All her rats were gone!I had a long, hard debate about shelling out $20 for more traps, but I was out of options. So the traps arrived and one was already broken. Quick note to Amazon! So they were sending out another order. Yes, I did have to return the broken one and one that wasn't broken. While I waited for the replacement I set out the first trap.Next day I found the bait door in the yard about ten feet from the trap. It had chew marks. I figured it was a squirrel. Yes, the bait was gone. When the other trap arrived I set up two. The chewed bait door was still good.We get to the next day and there are TWO bait doors in the same spot as the day before in the yard ten feet from the traps. This was no squirrel. It was a Smart Rat removing danger from where it's little rats roam. The same Smart Rat that knows how to set off the snap trap. FYI, runs really fast to set it off. I've seen it. These same rats have set off and run off with at least a half dozen snap traps and a few other trapping devices. They are removing danger and making sure I can't use the traps again. These rats don't know that Prime Amazon can get me another case in a day. If a rat does happen to get snapped one of their friends usually drags the rat AND trap back to where all of that stuff ends up.Cadrim trap pt.2; Outsmartting the rat. I do really get tired of all this. There are some little anchors on the bottom of the trap so you can screw it into your deck. I did it it between the boards. Wife shouldn't notice. Also drilled little holes on the top through the bait door and stuck a couple of bent nails in to keep it secure. Used Cap 'N' Crunch for bait. Rats love Cap 'N' Crunch.Next day, a lot more chew marks, but the doors stayed in place. Apparently rats don't love the Ol' Cap 'N' that much cause they couldn't be bothered to use the trap entrance. For a week it remained untouched. Odd thing, even the ants wouldn't go near that stuff and I have ant trouble with all bait.So it's a big thumbs down for the Cadrim. And a waste of $20.What finally worked this time:Neogen Rodenticide. Bought it here on Amazon. One box will last ages. For me at least.I've used it before with mixed results. Rats got smart to this as well, but I was desperate.Put out a 1 oz/28 gr block and before I had the door locked it was gone. Had to make sure of where I put it, but no, gone. Took out another block and I saw the rat jump on it and run off. Next day I looked all around the yard to make sure that it wasn't just moved but it was gone. Couple days later I could smell that it worked. You do have to be very responsible when using poison. Other animals use your yard. When I put it out it's in a container or I'll keep a close eye on it. If there's no activity I bring it in.So there you go, my rat tale.Everyone has different methods. Hopefully one will work for you. And please stay away from glue traps. A stuck rat can scream bloody murder for days until it finally succumbs unless you have the nerve to finish it off. Not for me.

BEST Mousetrap!!! (with Tips)
Earlier this year I tried a glue trap, but after catching a mouse on it and seeing how much he suffered (I found him with his tail torn completely off his body, his hide ripped open, and him gasping for air as he struggled desperately)-- I had to finish him off to end his trauma-- I immediately destroyed that glue trap and vowed that I will never, EVER use another. They are horribly cruel. I felt so bad over what I had caused that creature to go through. Determined to find a humane way to relocate the mice that find their way into my house in the woods, I began my search for live traps. The first two I bought were the Authenzo brand, 2019 version, which I baited with peanut butter, but I had little success with them. Even when mice were clearly in the house, they wouldn't enter the traps. And I always worried that if one was caught, the cramped space would cause the door to close on the mouse's tail.So after another mouse recently found it's way into the house, I was back on Amazon seeking a better model. One particular 5-star review here, by Bec, pointed out that this trap is longer in length, allowing adequate clearance for long-tailed mice and reducing anxiety while in the trap. Bec also suggested using BONITO FISH FLAKES as BAIT. Inspired by that review, I ordered two 2-packs (4 traps all together), plus Bonito fish flakes. The order arrived quickly. Within just a few hours of setting the traps, the mouse was caught (see his mug shot below). The Bonito fish flakes really are a hit! Another piece of advice: Be sure that no bait gets lodged under the "step plate" or when the mouse steps on it, it won't drop down, which is what releases the door latch so that it closes. I had to be careful of this with the Authenzo traps, too.I like how user-friendly this trap is. The latch on the door, and the bait door, are both so easy to open and set compared to those on the Authenzo. And this trap is nearly twice the length and a little taller (more spacious for the rodent caught in it). The air slots are also more generous, and are reinforced with aluminum on the inside to prevent mice from chewing their way out. I relocate any caught mice to a large meadow a couple miles from our house-- and I do this promptly, as soon as it's daylight --but I still like to know that they are stressed as little as possible while waiting. I genuinely like everything about this trap and recommend it highly.

The Best Design - Highly Recommended for Live Trapping Mice
This trap is an update of the design previously sold under the name Avantina. It keeps all the good features of the Avantina trap and improves on a number of things. The trap is BIG and roomy, which reduces the amount of time the mouse spends in only one place trying to chew its way out.Metal bands protect the areas most likely to be chewed through. Other, cheaper traps can be chewed through in a single night. The trap disassembles for rinsing out in the morning, and the function of the trap mechanism is not bad at all, resulting in about an 90% catch rate. This is an excellent catch rate in my experience. (10% of the time the mouse will rob the bait and get away, or the trap will spring without a mouse inside.)The door lock mechanism is improved, and the trap is well-balanced, catching moderately-sized mice without the need for extra weight on the trigger platform. (For really small mice you may want to glue a steel washer or two to the platform, otherwise they will be too light to trigger the trap.)The trap material is fully transparent, allowing you to easily see if there is a mouse inside or if the trap has been robbed.I didn't believe those who told me that my released house mice will just reenter our house, since we buttoned up our house pretty tightly from the outside. As an experiment, I painted our captured mice with nontoxic pink pet dye for about three weeks running, before releasing them approximately 50 feet from our house. We never caught a pink mouse in the house, leading me to believe the estimate that house mice rarely travel more than 30 feet to find a safe place to live out their lives. (Of course our neighbors may have puzzled over occasional pink mice. I'll have to ask them.)

Humane, easy to use
Bought this to put in my greenhouse as mice were destroying seedlings. Works well and means i don't have to use poison near good plants. Also I would not be happy using poison at all. This is far preferable as mice can be set free in fields away from garden and house without harm.

Trappola eccezionale!
Dopo 3 giorni che il topone mangiava solo le noccioline sull’uscio, ha preso confidenza ed è entrato... Game over. Probabilmente se me l’avessero detto prima l’avrei catturato in minor tempo.

Good for average rat size
I capture 2 rats that I left to die from hypothermia. The trap is really good for mid size rat. The bigger rat will puch the trap. The best trap I found to capture hungry fat rat is the Victor trap with the same peanut butter bate.
