The answer to most people's problems with this rake.
The media could not be loaded. People seem to think that this is too short of a rake. I believe that is because they do not realize that the pop-up button goes to both the lower hole as well as the upper hole. I was looking for a way to extend the top part of this rake while the pop-up button was in the lower hole. Don't! What you simply do is push in that pop-up button and pull the top part of the rake up so that the push-up button pops out of the top hole. That makes this rig approximately 5 and 1/2 ft. Very usable. Very well constructed. Solid steel in part of it and maybe aluminum and other parts. I have not taken this out to my yard yet but I am sure that it will work well. The slide for extending the width of the rake portion is easy to use and self-intuitive. It's simply pull down on the red handle and push it down to make it wider on the business portion of this unit. Pull it up to make it Not as wide. Once you get it to the position you want, simply bring the red lever up against the pole. Now that I've realized the problem was me and not to rake be in stuck, I am sure I'm going to love this Rick. That's why I gave it five stars. I am normally east to four star maximum person. And I do not mind giving one star. However in this particular case it is so well-built that I gave it five stars even before I have used it. Love it!

First impression is very good.....
I read the reviews, and while being sure to use it gently, have taken it out for its first spin around the yard. It did exactly what I wanted on my many, many stairs (my yard is on a hill), raking the dirt accumulated in the corners and catching leaves and getting into the overhanding plants just a little and without tearing them like usual thin sharp-edged metal rakes, and the telescoping feature was great for keeping the size just right for each bit of the yard. I know it's not heavy duty, but so far, very happy with it.One thing that wasn't quite clear when I bought it, is that the handle telescopes with the head, so that it has a notably SHORT handle when the head is narrow. For my use, where I want it narrow for the stairs, that is fine, but it might be an issue if you were planning on having a long reach into a narrow space in a plant bed.I updated this to five stars after a heavy garden day where I adjusted the width probably 20 times in just a couple of hours. It is holding up great to my use, and I haven't had a problem from the 'shortness' when it is narrowed.

The evaluators of this rake said it was the best for gathering up pine straw, and it does a very good job of that. It could be a little longer and sturdier, but I guess by making that so the handle would have to be a larger diameter, and that would make the rake heavier. That being said, I like the rake because I do a lot of pine straw raking.I gave the rake 4 stars due to one defect. The only exposed edge of the telescoping handle (tubing) on the rake I received had a sharp burr that was left there during the manufacturing process. This happens when a less than sharp blade was used to cut the tubing. BUYER BEWARE: the burr could very easily cut an ungloved hand while using the rake, I had to put gloves on to continue to use it. A small file put an end to the hazard, but a customer shouldn't have to modify a product in order to use it safely.

Sturdy, simple, awesome. A must-have car-camping tool
This is an awesome rake. I had one like it for many years but after leaving it out in the rain a few times, like an idiot, I live in western Washington State, it rusted and I eventually broke the handle. I wanted to fix it, but never did, and spent years without one as a result. Camping with my brother a couple of weeks ago he asked me what happened to my rake as he labored to clear his tent site with a branch. So when I got back I went blind online trying to find "THE" rake. There's so many lame aluminum ones out there. But this is THE one. Steel, strong, light and simple to operate. It has detentes to extend the handle which securely hold it in two positions, only two, extended and retracted. Not the infinite twist tighteners that slip and fail to hold. The tines are easily and infinitely adjusted with a locking lever from a wide fan to the tightly closed position. I loaned it to my nephew who used it last weekend and raved about it. I sent him the link and yesterday he sent me a pic, "Say hello to my little friend!" He picked one up too. So should you. You wont regret it. Just don't leave it out in the rain!

Best tool I've bough this year!
This rake is my fav. new tool.If you do a lot of gardening, and you find yourself raking leaves, mulch and pea gravel in tight quarters, you are going to LOVE this rake, it's light weight and has a telescoping handle which means it 'stores small'. But the best thing about it is that the tines of the rake can quickly and easily adjust from 1/4" apart to 2" apart with great accuracy, so no matter what the material (or space between two rocks you are raking for example) this rake quickly adjust to suit the task. The little 'lever' which can be opened to adjust the tines is covered in soft rubber and has a nice 'action'. Since pea gravel comes in very precise dimensions, it's great to have a precise tool to use to extract the detritus from it.Great tool!PS If I HAD to fault it, I'd observe that the telescoping handle is a little on the delicate side for a gardening tool, but this item is not intended to rake your whole yard in the fall; it's for more custom and precision work.

Works great for what it was intended
Reading reviews for this product makes me sad for the human race. Fall here. 32 trees in our yard. No, I did not attempt to rake up all the leaves with this. I used my brain and utilized a leaf blower and a mower with a bagging system. I will save this PORTABLE COLLAPSIBLE rake for more suitable purposes like camping or light duty where carrying a full sized car rake is not possible. Maybe a great thing to keep in a golf cart or side by side. I did use mine some today to rake up a few piles of leaves and my 77 year old old mother and a 4 year old and 7 year old figured out how to use it, expand it and collapse it in a manner of seconds. A nice little tool for what it was intended for. Not a shovel. Measured 32 inches collapsed.
