Violet the Painting Fairy
My seven year old daughter LOVES these Rainbow Magic books; she owns tons of them (really, we have over 50 of them)! This particular collection, THE MAGICAL CRAFTS FAIRIES, includes seven books (like all the Rainbow Magic collections). The titles included are; The Magical Crafts Fairies #1: Kayla the Pottery Fairy , The Magical Crafts Fairies #2: Annabelle the Drawing Fairy , The Magical Crafts Fairies #3: Zadie the Sewing Fairy , The Magical Crafts Fairies #4: Josie the Jewelry Fairy , The Magical Crafts Fairies #5: Violet the Painting Fairy , The Magical Crafts Fairies #6: Libby the Writing Fairy , and The Magical Crafts Fairies #7: Roxie the Baking Fairy .The description of the series on the back of the books, reads as follows..."Rainspell Island is hosting an Arts and Crafts Week. Rachel and Kristy can't wait to try all the different creative activities! But Jack Frost has other plans. He likes making chaos more than making art."In each Rainbow Magic series, Jack Frost and his band of mischief-making goblins, steal the magic of the various fairies. In this particular series, Jack steals the magic objects of each of the magical crafts fairies, because he wants to be the best at every craft. Kristy and Rachel are the two little human girls who befriended the fairies in the very first Rainbow Magic collection; The Rainbow Magic Fairies (Original) Complete Set 1-7: Ruby the Red Fairy, Amber the Orange Fairy, Saffron the Yellow Fairy, Fern the Green Fairy, Sky the Blue Fairy, Inky the Indigo Fairy, & Heather . In each series, Rachel and Kristy help the various fairies retrieve their magic from Jack and his goblins. They appear in all the various Rainbow Magic books. In this series, Rachel and Kristy help each of the magical craft fairies reclaim their magic objects from Jack's evil clutches. All the Rainbow Magic books are well written; each story is original and fun and is beautifully illustrated. I see the recommended reading age is 7 - 10. According to the back of the books, they appeal to 2nd and 3rd Graders and are at a Grade 3 reading level. My daughter is now in Second Grade. We've been reading these books to her since Kindergarten. As a first grader, she was able to read them independently. I must admit, however, that she is an advanced reader and, I am told, currently reads at a 4th Grade level. As a parent I highly recommend these books. They are perfect for any child who loves magic and fairies--my daughter literally reads a book per afternoon in order to fulfill her reading log homework requirement. It's her favorite part of the day! FYI we buy ours through the Scholastic Reading Club.
