This will not cut thick branches However it is designed to cut high hedges.

i bought one of these used it once and the cutting blade is curved anyone else had this

Norah, the blade should be straight. Nothing else. You should contact the seller for a replacement or a refund. If it's bent in any way the cutters will wear against each other and will quickly fail. If it's not fit for the purpose it was purchased you should have a 12 month guarantee for it. Contact the seller, I'm sure they will be happy to replace. If not, use the Amazon complaints procedure, they will want to ensure your rights are protected.

My deck is very high. it is level with a boundary hedge. can i use the trimmer 'downwards' - i.e. in a 'l' shape?

i think that would be awkward. I use a hand held trimmer for low jobs. >got a good one in Aldi for about £27.00
