Gives oak age to spirits.
I put these in a jar of moonshine and forgot about it for about a year and a half. When I finally opened the jar, I had legitimate whiskey as if it had aged in a barrel. Had all the taste and nuances you would expect from whiskey. Totally recommend if you want extra age in a bought bottle of whiskey, or experiment with clear alcohol as I did and make your own.

Age your bourbon!
Used these to age some Poor Man's Pappy and the results were amazing. The longest I aged them was for three weeks, no off flavors.

Works well but very small
The sticks are very small but they do the trick of aging a small batch. I used them in pint jars and it only took a few weeks to start seeing a difference.

It works!
It works! Your not getting top shelf bourbon or whiskey with it, but definitely adds a nice flavor to spirits.

These really work!
I dropped one of these into a bottle of Benchmark Full Proof bourbon just to see what would happen. I like Benchmark FP but, as a bottom shelf bourbon, it does taste somewhat young and grainy. After two weeks, wow! What a difference. The color was much darker and the flavors much deeper and more complex; that young, grainy quality was gone. A sub-$30 bourbon now drinks like a $60+ bourbon.

Not a Gimmick. Actually works!
I experimented with a bottle of Weller SR, and a bottle of Spirits of the Apocalypse (which I bought for $10 in Tampa). My chief reason for this experiment was to find if this was a gimmick product. The instructions on the spirals are to plop it into a bottle and wait, with the goal of aging the bottle further. After 2 weeks the spirals flavor will be fully extracted. For these two bottles, 1 week was plenty. For the Weller SR, the results were interesting. The nose became something near identical to Weller 107. I was instantly impressed with how much a week improved the nose. On the taste, 1 week of aging nearly over-oaked the bottle. I say nearly, because it's still drinkable. Actually, it's enjoyable if you like oak flavor. Again, the OWA comparison is striking. I believe I've improved the overall taste of this bottle. On the Spirits of the Apocalypse... Wow. Simply wow. I've turned what cost me $10 into something that competes with $80 bottles. The complexity that the spiral added to this juice floored everyone who's tasted it. Sweet vanilla, caramel, oak. The bottle is aged for at least 4 years but after spiraling it this tastes at least 4 years older yet. I will be buying more of this bottle, and aging it again. The value vs taste is incredible, and if you are reading this I highly implore you to spend the $20-$25 to do this yourself. Overall impressions of this product: for $10 you can really improve a cheaper bottle of bourbon. This is not a gimmick product. But beware, you need to sample your juice at least every 3 days to make sure you don't over-oak your bottle.

Will be hit or miss with most bourbon appreciators
Saw this scrolling through some other bourbon-related searches, and thought I'd pull the trigger based on some of the reviews/comments. I was thinking for 10 bucks, might as well take a shot at potentially enhancing the experience of a cheaper bottle of bourbon as it 'cures' [I don't feel comfortable with the word 'ages'] for several weeks. I started with handle of a common cheaper bottled in bond higher proof (100) bourbon, took the cap off, and dropped the wood spiral in as per the instructions, and walked away for 2-3 weeks. Simple enough. After the incubation period was over (and I was getting thirsty), I tried the first taste as I usually prefer my bourbon: in a double rocks glass with a clear ice sphere. The result was definitely 'different' -- I feel like it 'smoothed' some of the 'edge' off the taste. Which may compare to the impact of more aging. But personally, I prefer a little 'bite' to my higher octane bourbons (I feel like it lets me know 'oh yeah, I'm not your typical 80 proof sip'). So regarding the intended purpose, it definitely altered the flavor and smoothness of the higher proof bottle -- which some folks might enjoy. So, I think in the end it will come down to personal preference in the final results ... and I don't think it necessarily makes a $30 bottle taste like $150 bottle. But at $10, it's worth a shot for those interested.
