Outdoor Research Women's Oasis Sombrero Sun Hat

I actually bought this hat for my trip to Ireland because they were calling for rain every day and I just wanted something to keep the rain from dripping down my neck. Wouldn’t you know Ireland was having an unexpected heat wave and we did not see any rain. It was blistering hot so I wore it for its real purpose and that’s to keep the sun off your head and neck. There were lots of people with sunburned faces, chests and the back of their necks but not me. I love this hat so much I own two of them. This one is more of a pinkish red like strawberries. My other one is the turquoise color which I bought a few years ago for kayaking. I’ve received lots of compliments on them but they really work to protect you from the sun which is what they are meant for.

I love this hat. I am a biological researcher and have been spending all summer in a agricultural field working. This hat is amazing! I think it is very cute plus extremely functional. I was right between a medium and a large according to the manufacturers sizing chart and decided to go up to a large- i have a short hair cut now, and figure that won't always be the case. It fits very well and does an excellent job keeping the sun off of my face and neck. I love that iI no longer need to cake the sunscreen on my face because it inevitability runs in my eyes - no more tears! After the first breezy day I thought it would never stay on my head, but after cinching the elastic drawcord a little tighter, it fits like a champ! I was so sad one day when I left my hat at home. I love my hat! There are many times in the field I tell my crew with a big smile on my face how much I love my hat! They think I am crazy, I think I am smart!

This hat is pretty perfect. Pretty, covers your face and neck, and has a band to keep it on. One problem as has been stated in other reviews is that it blows back very easily so if the wind is in your face, it is going to blow backwards unless you keep it tilted way down (and then it is hard to see). It is hot, so if you are in a hot climate, there is no breatheability and for that reason I have moved to the Columbia with the vents. It isn't as pretty, but there you go. It also runs a bit big. I have a big head, but could have done with a medium instead of the large. Nice thing though is that you can pull it smaller. I would recommend it highly but wish they would make it just a little stiffer.

I have a giant head. Seriously. The typical woman's XL is a joke for me. I can wear baseball caps and that's about it. I wanted something with 360* coverage and didn't have much hope. BUT I found this hat and it is perfect for wearing at the baby pool/splash pad with my 2yo in Texas! It has a large (but not comically large) brim and is made from quick-drying fabric. Definitely a bright pink- not red at all-but pretty. Has a tie that I usually put behind my face rather than under my chin but it has come in handy for windy days. I finally can wear a girl hat and it makes me so excited!!!

This a great looking hat of lightweight, high tech design. It looks very prominent and feminine and has a draw string to keep it in place on windy days. I use it for kayaking, and it serves both as a head, neck, ear and shoulder sun protector, and as a beacon - it is very visible on the water from miles away, making it a safe boating choice.The only "funny" thing about this hat is the color. Depending whether you're out in natural light or indoors or whether it's cloudy or sunny, the hat can look anywhere from bloody red to pink to off pink. I was mad at first because I thought I bought a red hat, but the chameleon quality of its color is cute. Anyway, if you think it's a red hat - it's not.

Absolutely amazing hat. Light. Huge brim. Size xs fits a tiny adult head or an average little girl age 7 or up. Large hat fit above average size woman. We bought four. One for each family member and even another similar style for dad.

I use this hat all of the time, gardening, walking, outdoors in general. I take medications which cause me to sunburn easily, and have also had a case of melanoma, so I really need to protect my skin. The color is cheerful, hat stays on in the wind (flips up a little) when tightened up, and dry dirt or sand brushes off easily. I didn't give it 5 stars, because it doesn't pack well, comes out kind of rumpled, but I don't remember the description saying it would pack well, so I really have no reason to complain. What can I say, when I wear this hat, I don't burn.

I really don't know how I lived without this sun hat. I have sun sensitive skin and rosacea and cannot go out in the sun without sunscreen or a hat. I don't like baseball caps and straw hats are too itchy. This hat is perfect. It is lightweight, and yet substantial enough to survive a rain shower. It lets my head breathe, keeps me cool and the wide brim protects my shoulders and neck as well. I think it also looks good and it does not mess up my hair too much (chin length bob). I can spend hours outside in the sun without getting a headache or sun-fatigue. If this hat is worn out I will definitely buy another one.
