Digital Chess clock/timer DGT 960 - Easy to use/Fischer System

We got this timer for my son because it is the same exact timer that he uses in his after school chess club. It’s small compact and easy for him to use.

Works well

This is a compact, small chess timer that is fairly easy to use. Most common chess play time options can be set. When a player is flagged (runs out of time and loses) a beeping tone can be set to go off (in addition to clear on-screen display that makes it clear which player ran out of time.In addition, random positions can be displayed for playing Fischer Random Chess (in which the pieces on the back row are scrambled, there being 960 possible configurations. The interesting with this form of chess is that it essentially nullifies the knowledge of chess openings and can level the playing field in some ways. However understanding the character of the various chess pieces becomes crucial in winning such games. Which is exactly Bobby Fischer's goal in devising Chess960.

This chess lock is super compact which is great for on-the-go. The one we received was broken, the buttons did not work properly.

In addition to being complicated to set up, this chess/Scrabble clock was defective. The player on the right would have to tap the end turn bar several times to make sure that it registered. Returned as defective.

Good for travel, but for $30 it’s not as sturdy as one would hope.
