FireKing Stand Alone Media Vault Safe, 11-5/8" x 10-1/2" x 17-1/2", White (FIR)

I've been housing my external drives in my MV1000. Plus a few important documents. This was my solution for storage for my photo files. I am a pro photojournalist. I don't want to pay some offsite company X $$ every single month to keep my files. So the solution is to have redundant external drives, which are about 90 bucks apiece, and keep them in the safe. Every few weeks or once a month I pull the 1 terabyte external drives out and run Time Machine for a backup on both. I also burn DVDs for my RAW photo shoots, but those aren't protected. I'll need to get another safe for those. The important thing is that should my computer die or a fire occur, I'll always have a very recent backup of all my files. Once the external drives fill up, I'll buy new and larger capacity drives, and copy the data over. I like being self sufficient without having to rely on some company unseen by me to take care of my files. I've lost photo files before and it comes back to haunt you. When or if my current computer dies, I feel confident that I can just take one of the protected external drives and plug it into a new machine and be back in business. We don't realize in the moment how precious our photos are. They take on more meaning as time goes by. And for me they are worth money too. I finally have a good system for protecting them. Of all the safes I looked at, this is the only cost-effective one for my needs.The product itself seems very robust, heavy, and I can see how it would hold up in an intense fire.Finally, it gets 4, not 5 stars, because of the locking mechanism. It works just fine, but could be much stronger.Thanks for a nice product

Solidly built, and assuming it performs in a fire as advertised, it meets my need for protecting my hard drive and personal papers. Not a lot of room, but price is good

The vault arrived as advertised and in a timely fashion. The building hasn't burned down yet so I'm really not sure how well it works. :)
