Edited to add that two years later it is still a favorite and that the piece that connects the strap is indeed metal coated with something that makes it look like plastic to match the color of the strap. It's a great quality bag that still looks new with a lot of use.Quality material and zippers. This was the perfect travel purse and I've actually been carrying it to work since I got home. Fits my Kindle, phone, lipstick, compact wallet, and small hand sanitizer perfectly. Just barely the right space. I also ordered the Orva which looks the same in the picture but is much larger. If you need more space, the Orva is your bag, otherwise this one was perfect for traveling light.

This is the exact size I wanted. But the strap is attached via plastic, not metal hardware. The rest of the bag is so nice this is shocking. So 5 stars becomes 3.
