Great kit for beginners. I thought that the skill level was a little bit higher than beginners

The kit did not include the gridded fabric to use for the background, which I feel is one of the most important items. The cut squares were a nice fabric and good selection of colors. The fabric for the appliqué was not as nice. The silver fabric frayed terribly, and there was barely enough fabric to cut the pieces. Again, the Steam a Seam to adhere the appliqué was not included. Also, I would not recommend pressing the seams to one side as the directions say. There is too much bulk at the intersections which made quilting it a worrisome task. If I were to make another of these kits, I would cut open the seams. I will not purchase another of these kits even though the final product turns out nice.

All pieces seem to be included and I cannot wait for my Mother to open it on Christmas

I love the concept of buying a kit that ends up looking like a painting made of fabric. The instructions included in the kit were clear, giving directions for the placement of the 1" background squares according to color value. I purchased the fusible web and quilt grid directly from the company (is not included w/this kit) - all in the hope of making this project a success. I had already picked out at least 5 more kits I wanted to purchase - but I had so much trouble sewing the lines of squares together after pressing them all in place - I am still struggling through it. I couldn't use my machine -I had to borrow my g'dtr's. It snags, gets stuck under the foot and is taking forever. It seems as if the adhesive on the interfacing (again, bought directly from Whim's) is the issue. Doesn't feel tacky, but is leaving a residue on the machine. I've adjusted the tension, changed the presser foot - doesn't help. This is just the background - haven't even touched the applique part.I called Whim's direct - and I must say that the customer service rep I spoke to was wonderful (thus, the 3 stars). She attempted to trouble-shoot the issue and said she had never heard this type of complaint about any of their kits before. She was stumped - so am I. As much as I would want to give this project a good endorsement - I wanted to honestly review this kit from my own experience. I won't be purchasing another one.

Bought this for my mother in law who loves old sowing machines and to quilt... she was thrilled to get it as gift!

I have completed the background and am just about to start the sewing machine. It is cheaper than purchasing the machine itself and I love Whims kits. Unique.

I was excitedly looking forward to receiving this kit, but actually am rather disappointed in it. When you tape the two sewing machine pattern pieces together, there is barely enough black fabric supplied in the kit to cut it out. Likewise for some of the other accent pieces. For the sake of another inch or so of fabric! Unfortunately, not recommeded. Should also mention that the kit included a lot of Christmas fabrics, which I felt did not particularly go with the other fabric choices. I ended up having to cut more squares from my own fabric to replace these.
