Leviton SureSlide Ceiling Fan Control and Dimmer Switch for LED, Halogen and Incandescent Bulbs, 66DF-10W, White

Works perfectly but expensive.

I had a failing light/fan dimmer in the master bedroom. If I turned the light on to any position below full brightness, I would start to smell a burning plastic smell (if you've ever accidentally roasted a transistor or diode, you know what I mean) and the lights would flicker and dim. Not confidence inspiring. The original dimmer was a Lutron brand and it had done its job for at least 15 years, but I didn't want another one. I couldn't find one in white (beige or almond only when I was searching), I wasn't completely sold on the reliability, and it was more expensive than this one. I also didn't want some no-name dimmer from a company that wouldn't exist in 6 months so I resisted the temptation to buy a really inexpensive one, no matter how good the reviews were. I know the Leviton name and have used their stuff for years so I went ahead with this one. If you've ever replaced a light switch, you'll have no trouble with this. Make sure to turn off the breaker and then VERIFY THAT POWER IS OFF WITH A METER OR VOLTAGE TESTER. Don't skip this step. 120V isn't always lethal, but it can be and it doesn't feel good when it grabs you. Follow the color coding for the dimmer in the included instructions. On the version I bought, the yellow wire controls the light and the red wire controls the fan. This is the OPPOSITE of the Lutron dimmer I replaced so make sure you get it right. I disconnected and reconnected the wires one by one and had no trouble. Do yourself a favor-- either keep the instructions around for the next time you need to poke around in the wiring, or do what I did and write the color of each wire and what it does on the back of the dimmer with a paint pen. The Lutron had the color code right on the body of the dimmer but this one does not so plan ahead. The dimmer will be a tight fit into a typical single-gang electrical box (IE a handy box) but it WILL fit if you tuck the wires in neatly and don't use ginormous wire nuts. I got everything to fit with just enough room. A quick test showed that the dimmer controlled both the light and the fan with no funky smells and no flickering. Problem solved. The whole project, from the moment I shut off the breaker to when I reconnected power, took about 15 minutes with me moving at a leisurely pace. Please note that the dimmer does not come with a trim ring. You either have to reuse yours or buy one. The one from my Lutron dimmer worked fine so I reused it. When I bought this dimmer, it was around $37. I see that the price has gone up to over $60 at the time of this writing. Not worth it to me so I'm glad I bought when the price was lower. I suggest you either wait for the price to come down or pick a different brand. If you can get it for a reasonable price, this appears to be a good dimmer. Longevity is still unknown but my guess is that it will be fine. In the meantime, I've crossed another project off the list.

Works and easy to install. Who would think that it cost that much more to make a white switch when the almond one is $30 something and the white is $60 something. :) Nice margins!

I installed the Leviton SureSlide a few weeks ago to control my ceiling fan and light from one wall switch. It’s worked well overall and looks clean on the wall. Pros: Two controls in one: I like having separate sliders for the fan and light in a single unit — it saves wall space. LED-compatible: Works with most dimmable LEDs. Good quality feel: The sliders move smoothly and feel sturdy. Easy to install: Wiring was straightforward. Cons: Not fully variable: The fan only has low, medium, and high speeds — not continuous control. Some LED flicker: A few bulbs still flickered at low dim settings. Single-pole only: It can’t be used in a 3-way setup with another switch. A bit pricey: Costs more than basic fan controls. Overall: It’s a solid, well-made switch that simplifies control of both the fan and light. If your wiring supports it and your bulbs are good quality LEDs, I’d recommend it.

5 of 5 of these switched eventually failed. I had them installed on ceiling fans of the same model on different electrical circuits and they all eventually failed. At first, they work perfectly... and one worked for about two years before failing but they all fail in the same exact way. The light slider eventually will not bring the lights to full brightness, flickering occurs, even an unsafe buzzing noise comes from the switch. Meanwhile, the fan works without issue. At any rate, these switches are garbage. I've since replaced the switches with more electronically controlled (as opposed to manual), and have not had any issues since. I used to associate Leviton with a whole line of quality products-- this one clearly does not meet that mark!

This is a nice switch. I bought it to replace the HORRIBLE Hunter switches. It installed pretty easily. I wrote a review because I liked the first one enough to get another, to replace my other HORRIBLE Hunter switch. p.s. Why are the Hunter switches so bad you may be asking. Short Answer: Designed to fail, and buying a cheap switch or switch parts over, and over and over ends up being more expensive than a nice one.

Bought two these to control a few LED recessed lights and a fan in a room because I liked the look and wanted something reliable since I never had issues with Leviton products before. Well, I was disappointed. For starters, there was supposed to be an adjustment dial on the bottom to modify the lowest light level but I couldn't find any without trying to take the plastic apart. Also, one of the issues was that the minimum light level was too high for these lights and even with that they will turn of on the lowest setting and something power demanding gets turn on studently on same circuit. But the worst part was that the light will go to the highest setting and back again when switching the fan speeds. This didn't happen always, but it did enough to be consistently happening depending on how fast you move through the fan speeds. I thought it could be the lights themselves but when hooked up with a $17 TP-Link Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch HS220 these same lights go to a lowest brightness setting and won't turn off when turning on the same power demanding device used before. And when connecting the original controller the fan came with alongside the Kasa switch the lights won't even notice when you change fan speeds. I tested the two Leviton switches I bought and both behaved the same. Returning.

I thought my fans were damaged, they hardly move when on full. I took a chance and bought this thinking I would have to replace the fans as well, but thought I would try a new switch first, works perfectly now with this new switch!!! I’m buying another one to replace the other one!!

Easy to instal - just make sure you mark the wires from where the faulty one was removed.
