In this short 5-minute film the work of German photographer Alexander Lauterwasser is presented in the context of Cymatics, the study of vibration and its effects on form-making. A brief history of Cymatic research is presented starting with the sound-figure experiments of Ernst Chladni and Hans Jenny. Alexander Lauterwasser is shown continuing the research that Chladni and Jenny began with his custom-built equipment that enables him to produce beautiful geometric patterns in substances ranging from sand to water. The connection of sound to organic patterns in nature and the philosophical implications are also addressed. The 5 minute running time is ideal for the classroom.

World's shortest DVD
I expected this to be a 45 minute production or at least a 30 minute show. Instead it is like 5 minutes long. Can you call 5 minutes of flat video, shot locked down on sticks, a "documentary?" No awards pending here!I've never felt ripped off before because a DVD was to short! I certainly did when I played this - the world's shortest DVD production. The shots are fine for the duration of the 5 minutes, but there's nothing new here you couldn't find on the internet for free. Burn me once, shame on me! Perhaps it's time for someone to do a serious show on Cymatics. It is -- apparently -- an open market (no competition from this product). As an update, there is an entire world of information on the connection between sacred music, Cymatics, sacred geometry, cosmology and consciousness. As a producer myself my biggest problem with this subject matter is trying to fit the minimum I might say on this topic alone into 44 minutes. So, for those whose only defense is "you should have read the fine print," I have to question (as I did implicitly before) the integrity of this defense in the first place. For those whose passion is the truth, the canvas is never big enough, nor the media big enough. It comes down to editing.Cymatics is an incredibly important subject as it verifies the existence of the aether in a simple mechanical manner. This is topic in need of a serious documentary show. This is not it. Perhaps I'll have to produce that show? It will certainly be 'bigger than a bread box."

Not worth $20 at all
Get on YouTube and conduct a search on the subject for free and you will find much better and in depth information. 5 minutes for $20! The worst investment I've made in the history of my bad investments. Really upsetting to see something so trivial hit the store shelves!

Five minutes of video for $25
I had thought this video would be a lot longer. While what is presented is OK, there is only five minutes of it- And a minute or so of the five minutes is lead-in. Disappointing.

Hidden World: Cymatics
John Campbell has done an admirable job condensing the fascinating experiments in Cymatics (geometric standing wave forms generated by audible sound) of German researcher, Alexander Lauterwasser, Water Sound Images: The Creative Music of the Universe into a brief, but intriguing 5-minute video. It serves as a wonderful introduction to Cymatics, offering insights into the invisible world of sound. One of Lauterwasser's obvious fascinations is creating visual analogues of complex geometric patterns found in nature, from the relatively simple patterns seen in flowers and plants to much more complex figures like leopard spots and the patterns of the tortoise shell. One can only wonder how much time he spent perfecting the ability to create these patterns using nothing more than particular sine wave frequencies and sand or water! Well, he uses some pretty precise technology, but what we see in this video are images of ACTUAL PHYSICAL VIBRATIONAL PATTERNS arising in real time as the material is "animated" by sonic oscillations, not electronic algorythms.Rather than just leaving this in the realm of obscure "Believe it or Not" parlor science tricks like you might see on YouTube, Campbell artfully focuses his lens on the significance of these explorations into "The Creative Music of the Universe," highlighting their conceptual resonance with ancient ways of perceiving the rhythms and harmonies of nature as expounded upon in ancient Taoist texts. Even for those diehard materialists who are neither spiritually nor mystically inclined*, this program has something to offer. After all, these are straight physics experiments, and for those of us for whom seeing is believing, well, you can believe your ears on this one! {* If you are one of these, you might find Hans Jenny's original research in Cymatics to be more palatable.} Cymatics: A Study of Wave Phenomena & Vibration

Perfect for my classroom!
This is an excellent video on the topic of cymatics. I was only slightly familiar with the topic and wanted to know more about it. This video did the trick. I am a teacher and will be using this in my classroom. It is the perfect length to insert into my curriculum and quickly educate my students. Those that have already seen it were enthralled and found a renewed interest in learning. Love when that happens!!

Concise short film on Cymatics perfect for the classroom.
Concise and to the point, this short mini-documentary gives a background on cymatic research and is perfect for classroom use.

Fascinating topic and great shots!
I really enjoyed watching this video... it is a fascinating topic and the visuals are great! It is the only English language video on this topic that I am aware of. This is a gem that everyone should see!
