Sanctuary: A Postapocalyptic Novel
M**T
One of two of my favourite Apocalyptic series.
As far as end of society fiction goes, this is one of the best. Hopf takes us through another leap of adventure in this action packed story. Two brothers and their families, all separated throughout this book, struggle with the evil people that thrive on anarchy as they struggle valiantly to fight for decency, and come together again. Each group, each person goes through horror and blood just to survive. Society is breaking down after an EMP explodes in our atmosphere and brings America to a grinding halt. No power. No cars. No cell phones....we're back to the old west where the people with the most guns win.In this latest book, the United is breaking up into factions: the East Pacific States, driven by a rogue U.S. Marine navy commander whom has mutinyed and broken away from the rest of what's left of our nation's military trying to establish a safe place for his men, his intentions are good, but you just can't up and walk away with half the nation's military might and not suffer repercussions. In their new base on the west coast, the local mayor of the city (even though they are protected and supplied by the entrenched might of an army in their vicinity) considers him a traitor to the U.S. (which no longer exists) and the horrible conclusion of THIS conflict is shocking. Alaska has annexed. Hawaii has annexed. what remains of country is falling apart. Rioting, looting, are rampant. Only the communities that come together have a chance against the chaos. The United States president tries to hold the country together, and get aid to the common people after his predecessor planned to launch nuclear missiles at all suspected enemy's. He tries desperately to restore power, and get supplies out to those who need it. He has to divide his attention between the other nations on the globe that seem to be no better off than us, the Rogue Commander, and the militants moving upward from Mexico ruthlessly murdering and burning their way into the heart of our devastated country. A mercenary army. Bought and paid to attack the unstable U.S.A picture of who caused the world wide tragedy begins to form. The whole story is being told in retrospect by a survivor being interviewed in the not so distant future; A child. A little girl, during the time of all the terrible events of this book take place... The Author, Mr Hopf has left this hanging. This book ends well (no spoilers) but there remains a bit left to tell. What happens to the country after all the conflict of 2015? Somehow, the little girl (grown and with her own children now) must tell how her father and his brother stand up, and are instrumental in pulling the country back together.

another great read in the series
I got hooked on book 1. This one started off with a fast pace and kept going with a few surprising twists just like the previous two books. With his unpredictability, Colonel Barone definitely is the most interesting character. As I approached 85% on my Kindle I realized this was not going to be the last book in the series. I am torn on this issue, which seems to be a growing habit, especially with e-books. Torn because I didn’t want the book to end and torn because I must wait for the next book. Had I not followed Michael on FB, he would have slipped into obscurity like many other series writing authors before. I can’t wait for the final book, because Michael always entertains me while letting me slip out of this crazy world into another fictitious crazy world for a few hours. Scary thing is; it might not be fictitious in our very near future. I look for an end to the story while waiting for more work from this author. PS I had to read book 2 again before reading this one. I actually enjoyed reading book 2 again.

An amazing third book in an incredible series.
Mr. Hopf has not disappointed in this third installment of The New World series. In fact, he has outdone himself! Continuing from the end of the second book (The Long Road), this story follows the families, military, and government officials that have attempted to survive after a devastating EMP attack across the United States. I strongly recommend, no INSIST that you start the entire series with the first book (The End) and continue through to this third book. So well written and unbelievably fast paced with twists and turns throughout, this is a book that will keep the reader constantly surprised and undeniably stunned. A formidable post apocalyptic series that will leave you breathless in anticipation of what will happen next! Awesome book and an incredible series!

~~President of US/Pan American Empire/Points in Between~~
Haley continues to relate the story in the year 2066 of her family's tragedies and triumphs. Her narration goes back to the year 2015 in which Gordon is trying to locate the killer of his son, Hunter. Conner, the President, decides to move the new capital of the US to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Colonel Barone (branded a traitor by some) makes a deal with the President allowing the US to have use of the port in Portland, Oregon. Another evil doer, Pablo is in control of the state capitol in Sacramento, California. He has 25000 troops supplied by the Venezuela government in exchange for gold. The influence of the Pan American Empire is evident. This novel has intense action on many fronts. Several of the characters are attempting to get home; several others are traitors in the midst of waging war; Samantha and Haley are trying to hold it together until Gordon returns home. Anxiety abounds on multiple fronts throughout the book.I really liked the message of hope that Pat's coffee shop in Cheyenne, Wyoming, conveyed to the citizens. Also, one sees the truly vindictive side of Pablo with the trays brought in for Isabelle's viewing! OUCH! Lexi was also quite the surprise with her trickery at exactly the right moments. The plot is well defined, characters mesh well together and the story moves along quickly...all too fast for me.Most highly recommended.

great series of books
i enjoyed reading the 3rd book, looking forward to the 4th book in may, it centres around the characters and their lives a lot more than usual post apocalyptic books i have read, i can imagine if you like the walking dead series then you will enjoy these books but without the whole boring zombie scenario, this is more like something that could actually happen so is a little more believable, i have given it 4 stars on the account of poor proof reading rather than storyline, this author deserves a better service.
