recommendable alternative yuri
Yuri Monogatari is a anthology of lesbian romance stories written by women for women, although that doesn't mean men can't enjoy this too. I've actually met Erica Friedman, the woman who put this anthology series together, and by knowing her or reading her blog at Okazu her mission was to have many artists from around the world create their own personal yuri stories, and have it all accumulated into one book (or a few, considering the volumes prior). Each story is different from the other with their own varied artistic and narrative styles, but that's a part of what makes Yuri Monogatari unique. One story can be heartwarming, or depressing, or downright strange. Again, no two stories are alike, and they seem carefully chosen on purpose. You may have a better appreciation for it if you read the previous volumes of this anthology (the third one still my favorite), or even check out the Okazu blog. This is a light read, but also meant to be maturer than the yuri currently offered from Seven Seas Entertainment, although the people behind this anthology are very supportive of Seven Seas; it just means more yuri for everyone, especially after the long-monopolizing genre of yaoi. And the 6th volume of Yuri Monogatari is coming out probably in March 2009, so be sure to add that to your collection too.

very disappointing
judging from the artwork on the cover I was expecting this to be a collection of quality manga short stories. What I found inside was for the most part very badly drawn, with many stories looking like web comics. Most stories are also too short to be easily understandable. I hated this book, its really not worth your money. Instead please treat yourself to another yuri series, one drawn with care.
