An award-winning play from one of America’s most brilliant writers about a murder in a small Southern town, loosely based on the 1955 killing of Emmett Till. • "A play with fires of fury in its belly, tears of anguish in its eyes, a roar of protest in its throat." — The New York Times James Baldwin turns a murder and its aftermath into an inquest in which even the most well-intentioned whites are implicated—and in which even a killer receives his share of compassion. In a small Southern town, a white man murders a black man, then throws his body in the weeds. With this act of violence, James Baldwin launches an unsparing and at times agonizing probe of the wounds of race. For where once a white storekeeper could have shot a "boy" like Richard Henry with impunity, times have changed. And centuries of brutality and fear, patronage and contempt, are about to erupt in a moment of truth as devastating as a shotgun blast. Review: Good read - Good book Review: Nice clean copy, good price - Very pleased with the quality of the book--in even better condition than promised--at a very reasonable price.

Great!
Very interesting story to read , I loved it, it is a great book that will make you feel sad and anxious in the same time . It is a must read if you have a few hours to spare . This book is not long so it could be read in less than 4 hours

Baldwin's second play.
Based, loosely, on the death of Emmett Till. The play still seems prescient, thought I don't know if Baldwin's play are still performed.

brilliant
Foreshadows much of the framing of today’s troubles—privilege, race, attitudes and necessity of the lines we draw against on another in the sand.

Great read
This is a great read. It’s the first play I’ve ever read and it was a page turner. I read a monologue for my acting class and decided to read the play as suggested by my instructor. It was great!

Baldwin remains as relevant today as he was 60 years ago.
James Baldwin is one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. His ability, as a black intellectual and writer, to write about racism and American society during the middle part of the century, was unparalleled. I hope to one day see a live performance this play enacted on the stage.

rating the company
This book was sent on time and in good condition. The book itself was not something I would read normally. It was required reading for school.
