desertcart.com: Thomas the Train: TrackMaster Talking Flynn : Toys & Games Review: Grandson loves it. - Our 2 1/2 year old grandson loves talking Flynn. He has played with it daily. Very sturdy and it's a good motorized toy. Review: Flynn has trouble staying on the track with the load ... - Flynn has trouble staying on the track with the load behind him. I would buy Flynn as one piece and forget the piece he is pulling in this option. Also, buy it without the talking option. He gets irritating after while.

Design flaw compared to other TrackMaster trains
My three year old son loves Thomas, and especially his TrackMaster trains, which he owns six trains. His recent fascination with emergency vehicles led us to purchasing "Fiery Flynn" as he calls him. He really enjoys the talking with siren aspect. HOWEVER, I think there is a design flaw with this model. All the other TrackMaster trains have the power switch on the main train, which not only turns on the motor, but also engages the gears, so when the train is in the "off" position, the wheels free spin for my son to push on his own (and not damage the gears). This is NOT the setup with Talking Flynn. On this model, the switch is on the second (battery) car and only controls the power. So the gears are always engaged to the drive wheels, meaning when he is pushing it he is wearing out the teeth of the gears which I fear might lead to an early failure. Additionally, the drive wheels on the train sit very close to the train body, leaving no room to inspect the axle for lint or hair. After only two days of use, I can tell that some hair has already slowed down Flynn's speed considerably, and this is only with indoor play in a well maintained home. His other TrackMaster trains rarely pick up hair and when they do it can easily been seen & removed with a tweezer. For Flynn I may have to obtain the triangle screwdriver in order to keep the axles clean... but that still doesn't fix the always in gear issue. Good luck!

Great train But for older kids
My son is 2 and for his birthday received a "trackmaster" brand track and a few trains. Within a few days he had broken his "Flynn" becasue he is still young and didn't really get the concept of just letting the train run...he wanted to "push" it himself. In doing this, he put his weight down on top of the train as it moved along the track. The gear box in these trains is plastic and within a few days had completely stripped. So it no longer runs on its own. It can ONLY be pushed. This is a great little train and the trackmaster brand is awesome. BUT I think my son will wait until he is 3 and can take directions a little better before we add to this collection. No matter how many times I told him it would break if he kept pushing down, he did anyway and we've been through 2 "Flynns." Definitely for kids who can understand better how the train works and be a little gentler with their toys ;)

Talks and has siren sounds
Out of all of the trackmaster talking trains this one is my little boy's favorite. My son loves fire trucks so since this item makes all of the sounds that a fire truck would create he plays with it non-stop. It runs on 3 AAA batteries and makes a great addition to the set. If you had issues where the other trains would pinch little fingers then this item would be great since it does not include the small plastic railings on the wheels that would cause that issue. I highly recommend this item.

Cannot Exchange Broken Flynn
We bought this and some tracks for my son with his birthday money from Grandparents. Great price and arrived quickly, but the "motorized" action isn't working even though the talking is working fine. Not a huge deal since ordered through Amazon I thought, but be warned that you cannot exchange this product. Not the end of the world, but very annoying. Good toy, annoying customer service this time.

Good train but does not stay on track
Good train but does not stay on track, I think it's poor design on the back side when pulling the second unit.

Fire engine annoying
My son loves this fire engine train but as a parent you will find it annoying to listen to. I wish there was a shut off for the noise it makes but no. Remember to be careful with this product because the way the two pieces stay together seems like it will break pretty easy with a 3 year old playing with it.
