I’m not usually into non fiction works, but I’m working my way through every book this man has written. 10/10 would recommend.

NOT AS OUT OF PLACE AS ONE MIGHT THINK.
THE THIRD ONE MIGHT SEEM A LITTLE BIT ODD IN THE OVERALL CONTINUITY OF THE “CHRONICLES OF NEPHILIM”, BUT THAT’S ONLY AT FIRST SIGHT. ONCE YOU GET INTO IT, YOU QUICKLY REALISE THAT THIS PARTICULAR ENTRY IN THE SERIES IS EXTREMELY CRUCIAL IN THE CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS, DEPICTED IN BRIAN GODAWA’S TERRIFIC SERIES. GILGAMESH, A LEGENDARY KING OF URUK, AS IT TURNS OUT, HAS A LOT MORE BIBLICAL CONTEXT TO HIS PERSONA, FITTING RIGHT INTO THE OVERALL LORE. THE STORY IS SET IN THE POST-DELUGE ERA, WITH HUMANITY SLOWLY REPOPULATING THE EARTH, AND WHAT A SURPRISE, RESORTING TO THEIR WICKED ANTEDILUVIAN WAYS SOON AFTER. AS WE KNOW FROM THE ENDING OF THE 1ST BOOK, THE NEPHILIM DID NOT GO EXTINCT ALL THE WAY, FINDING THEIR WAY INTO OUR WORLD AFTER THE FLOOD, AND ON TOP OF IT ALL, THE FALSE GODS (THAT BEING THE WATCHERS) NOT ALL HAVE BEEN “REMOVED” FROM THE WORLD OF THE LIVING. THEIR EVIL PLANS RESURFACED, AND THE NEW PROTAGONIST (THAT BEING KING GILGAMESH HIMSELF AND HIS BRETHREN) IS EMBARKING ON SOME CRAZY JOURNEYS TO LEAVE A MARK IN HISTORY (AND FIND IMMORTALITY).THE CHARACTERISATION IN THIS NOVEL, ALONG WITH SOME SERIOUS PHILOSOPHICAL DEPH, IS JUST AS TOP NOTCH AS THE FIRST TWO BOOKS HAD IT. WITH THE KING GILGAMESH HIMSELF BEING A NEPHILIM, THE AUTHOR ONCE AGAIN FLIRTS WITH THE IDEA OF NEPHILIM BEING CAPABLE OF REPENTANCE AGAINST THEIR DARK NATURE. BUT AT THIS POINT WE COULD ALMOST EXPECT THAT WHOLE ANGLE NOT LEADING ANYWHERE WHERE ONE WOULD THINK. JUST THE FACT THAT GILGAMESH HIMSELF WAS INTRODUCED AS THIS OVERLY PASSIONATE INDIVIDUAL, AND US BEING FULLY AWARE THAT THE IMMORTALITY HE’S SEEKING FROM NOAH (WHO HAPPENS TO BE STILL ALIVE AROUND THIS TIME) BEING YET ANOTHER ILLUSION, PUT UP BY THE “GODS”, IT WAS EASY TO GUESS WHERE GILGAMESH’S DISAPPOINTMENT WOULD EVENTUALLY TAKE HIM.SPEAKING OF NOAH, IN HERE HIS FATE WAS LEFT UNCERTAIN, WHEN HE AND HIS WIFE HAD LEFT THEIR ISLAND OF SECLUSION, TO RETURN TO THE MAIN LAND, SINCE THE CREATOR WASN’T DONE WITN THEM YET. BUT THAT BRINGS A LOGICAL QUESTION: AND? WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT? NO MENTIONING OF NOAH SINCE THEN. WAS IT MEANT TO BE ADDRESSED IN THE 4TH BOOK? WELL, GIVEN THE FOURTH BOOK TAKING PLACE LONG AFTER THE EVENTS OF THIS ONE, IT SEEMS LIKE YET ANOTHER LOOSE END THAT WOULD BE LEFT UNRESOLVED.THE BOOK’S ENDING OVERALL SEEMS SOMEWHAT RUSHED. IT WOULD PROBABLY HAVE BEEN BETTER TO HAVE AT LEAST EXTRA 5-10 CHAPTERS TO COVER THE CONTENTS OF THE LAST TWO (+EPILOGUE), CUZ THE FEELING OF UNDERSTATEMENT WAS MORE THAN FELT. THE FINAL “NAME CHANGE TWIST”, THAT TIES THIS BOOK DIRECTLY WITH THE ONE THAT FOLLOWS - WAS COOL. BUT THE ABRUPTNESS OF IT ALL WAS STILL A SERIOUS SHORTCOMING IN MY OPINION.ONCE AGAIN, THE SEMI-HISTORICAL WORLD BUILDING IMPRESSES WITH IT’S ATTENTION TO DETAIL. THE RESURGENCE OF CIVILISATION GETS A MORE OR LESS THOROUGH EXPLAINING, AND SOME SIGNIFICANT BIBLICAL ELEMENTS, THAT WOULD AFFECT THE FARTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE STORY, ARE APPLIED IN THE CLEVEREST MANNER. STUFF THAT WAS LAID AS THE FOUNDATION FOR THE THINGS TO COME IN THE FIRST TWO BOOKS, SLOWLY BUT SURELY SHOWS THROUGH, AND THE EPICNESS OF THIS 8-VOLUME LONG BOOK SERIES YET AGAIN IS BEGGING FOR AN ADAPTATION. GENNDY TARTAKOVSKY, YOU CAN MAKE SOMETHING AMAZING WITH THIS STORY, VIA THAT SAME ANIMATION STYLE USED IN “PRIMAL” SERIES.

Brings the Bible to life!
Keep in mind that this is a historical novel but don't let that stop you. Brian Godawa writes with a Biblical Christian worldview using artistic license and creativity to bring the ancient characters to life. Gilgamesh is my favorite so far as I work my way through the Nephilim series. Maybe it's because I don't know the story of Gilgamesh as well as I do Noah and Enoch. (those were good too, by the way). But in Gilgamesh, Mr. Godawa brought Gilgamesh to life and humanized him. I grew up in Sunday school. Learned about Noah and his boat, and about a giant called Goliath. But there were GIANTS!!!!!! There were 'gods'. There were supernatural forces at work. There were an awful lot of evil doers. They didn't teach so much about the scary stuff in Sunday School. Gilgamesh comes to life in this book, along with all the other ancient characters as the story is woven toward the ultimate character: Jesus Christ. I venture to guess that people who don't hold the Bible to be true and historically accurate will find this book hokey. However, it is NOT any more hokey or far-fetched than the Tolkien trilogy. Be opened minded. Embrace the subtle humor that the author inserts into the story. And look for the clues he drops that there is nothing new under the sun....from ancient times to the present. I can't wait to get started on Abraham.

Awesome
I could not put this book down, I would spend all day looking forward to completing everything I had to do to read more in my free time. The author makes you feel as if you are right there, with the emotions of the characters and his descriptive writing. He was definitely called to author these books. Before I finished this one I was purchasing the next one in the series!

Gilgamesh Immortal, the 3 book in Brian Godawa of the Chronicles of the Nephilim, another great read
Brian Godawa has done a great job of putting the stories of Gensis and the Chronicles into layman terms and voice.I kinda knew the story of Gllgmesh, but not to the extent the the author has taken it to.I especially appreciate the Epilogue" does a fabulous job of relating the authors interpretation with the actual text in the Bible and in it various forms

Billige Massenware
