My hydrant head cracked and I bought this to replace it. The old one had no I D and had been setting in concrete for over 40 years , so I was expecting some fitment issues. But the only thing I had to deal with was the different size rods , 7/16 on the old and 3/8 on the new. I had to cut off part of the old brass rod to get the length right , I then silver brazed the two together and it worked like a charm. Otherwise the new head is virtually identical to the old and works great.

I forgot to shut the hydrant valve off this winter, and the water froze and cracked the head, so replacement was necessary. After researching the options, I decided upon this head assembly.It was easy to install, and works fine. It was much cheaper and easier than the alternative.As for the quality of the head, I assume that the metal is casted of the same material as the original, so I better remember to shut the valve off before freezing weather arrives.They do make more expensive hydrants, and the material may be able to handle freezing, but my hydrant is inexpensive, and it didn't handle freezing.

Product was free of damage and defected. Fit our hydrants perfectly.

My husband put this one on and it split at the seam within months. When he tried to return it the guy said, “they’ll say it froze”. It was September. They had him purchase a replacement and said they’d ask the rep for a refund but last week still had not seen the rep.

This might work if you are a plumbing pro with all kinds of experience in jury rigging. It is not a good quality mechanism, in my opinion. It is very difficult to adapt this to a different brand of hydrant.

The item worked great and is made of heavy gauge cast. The only real downfall is you have to make sure you pipe and plunger inside is not bent at all. My plunger was bent and I had some problems using the new item. I should have bought the whole unit again but I did not want to have to dig it up. This item worked very well.

This was a great fix and easier than digging up the the whole hydrant!
