This is an outstanding book for those who remember the big stores in downtown Cleveland! It was such a treat before Christmas to go downtown, met my father when he got off work as he worked downtown and eat out which was a real treat and then go tour the Christmas windows at the big department stores. Then shop! I’ll always remember that adventure as if it was yesterday! Enjoy this book and share with a young person. They’ll never get to see and experience that excitement.

Growing up in Cleveland my Mother enjoyed the "real" department stores and this book took her back to wonderful memories.

Wonderful read for anyone who grew up in Cleveland in the 1940's--1960's like I did. So many memories of taking the Rapid Transit from Shaker Heights to downtown to shop at the big department stores: Higbee's, Halle's, May's, Sterling Linder Davis, and all the small stores in between. The suburban malls may have killed these downtown giants, but nobody can kill the memories of eating lunch from miniature stoves at the Silver Grille in Higbee's, the frosty malted drinks in May's basement, Mr. Jingeling & Santa on Halle's 7th floor, and that marvelous gigantic Christmas tree at Sterling's.

A fun book for anyone who grew up in Cleveland. Would like to see even more history and pictures, but an enjoyable trip down memory lane. I enjoy this series of books.

I bought this book for my mother who spent her college years and first five years after in Cleveland during the late 50's and early 60's. I can remember as a four year old going to see the Christmas Tree at Sterling Linder Davis. This book was deloivered very fast; it wis in excellent condition and was a REMARKAB LE price. This is a victualer you can trust. When buying alternative on amazon, I almost always consider the location of the book seller; Iam sure I did here as well, and then the precentage of satisfacetion and how many sales (the amount of sales being far more important than that decisionsbut let me state that many customers don't give frive stars because Five Stars SHOULD mean perfectoion. But with amazon and with eBay five stars is imparative because anything less (like an American A minus) is unacceptable.That said, I thank you because the truth is that in this case, you DO DESERVE FIVE STARS>Grazie

Enjoyed looking through this book--brought back nice memories from '50's & '60's for me. Book covers earlier and later times as well, through the end of the Big Four in Cleveland as well as smaller, lesser known stores. I recommend it if you used to shop at Higbee's, May. Co., Halle's, or Sterling Lindner.

Was a gift for grandma - thoroughly enjoyed - lots of pictures and interesting stories.

Great historical book on the original retail beauty of Cleveland when it was a magical place to shop.
