Great niche product, a bit narrow
I was looking for something that I could commute in that was more walkable and less... bikeish(?) than the hand-me-down road shoes that I had. These fit the bill perfectly style-wise. Functionally, they are pretty great too. Definately less awkward to walk in than totally rigid bike shoes. That said, they cant really compare to the comfort of the vans slip ons that I am used to wearing. They feel more like a cross between a stiff boot and a dress shoe (the sole is stiff like a boot and the upper is snug and more rigid like a leather dress shoe.) Compared to vans they are uncomfortable to walk in, no way around it, but better than lots of alternarives. On the bike they feel great. They are rigid and snug enough that you do really get the benefits of the clipless system on the upstroke. The straps work well to minimize foot movement inside the shoe and I dont find then umcomfortable. On the downstroke they have a but more give to them so they kindof feel like using platform pedals and sneakers, a sensation I am very comfortable with and quite like in comparison to the complete rigidity of my old road shoes. You could get into an argument about inefficiency and power transfer there but if you bought these, I doubt thats top on your list of concerns. My only issue thus far with these shoes has been the sizing. I religiously wear vans size 9.5 mens and they fit me like a glove. That puts me between 42 and 43 in euro sizes so I went with size 42 here because I figured tighter is probably better for bike shoes. The length is perfect but these shoes are very narrow. I can wear them and the tightness feels good on the bike but they really squeeze the crap out of my taylors bunion area when Im walking in these for a while. The material looks like suede so Im hoping for a bit of stretch after a while of wearing them. Just be advised that you might want to size up a tiny bit in these slip on dzrs specifically.
