Great Play Along CD from a Living Master of the Djembe
As a djembe player, I had to react to seeing this CD being sold on Amazon.com with no reviews to recommend it. Babatundi Olatunji passed away a few years ago, and Mamady is one of the living masters of djembe to carry on the tradition. As his name translates in his native Guinnean, he was born to this, a natural talent. You can't find a better album for playing along on the djembe. This album will take you through your rhythmic paces. This is an early recording with Mamady full of youth and hand speed. He still is full of youth and hand speed, and someone needs to record him on DVD for posterity. The djembe is called a "healing drum." If you play a traditional Twenoboa wood drum, it will infuse the surroundings. The walls and windows of your house will hum to the percussion. His other CDs feature village style singing, the true African meaning of healing as a community. Drum, sing and dance together and you have the African formula of communal harmony that has been done for thousands of years. Primitive? If more people were pounding on drums instead of each other, the world might be a better place. Cheaper than therapy and a great jump start for any drum circle.

Great tribal drums!
The CD came quickly and well packaged. I was looking for some strong tribal drums with powerful rhythms for meditative, stress relieving and energetic dancing and that's exactly what I got. I am extremely pleased with this CD. No words, no lyrics, just pure trance-like beats played with great skill. The songs are very original and all different from each other. I love it!

Seemingly Traditional African Drums...I guess.
I wanted some "traditional" African drum music to exercise to, and this is as good as any I previewed. I would recommend this CD to anyone wanting to hear African drum music.

African Drums
To this date I have never been able to properly download this CD from Amazon. Despite emails from Amazon instructing me how to download this CD I have not been able to get my music and was charged for it. As a result I will never purchase a downloadable CD from Amazon and have warned friends not to so either. This was a big disappointment!

Different styles, different region
Mamady Ijalit Keita is NOT the "Mamady Keita" of fame. This CD is a very good example of a very different style of music, a much more village-style than the crisp productions of the latter. If you approach this disc as more of a field recording of ethnomusicological interest, you will be far more satisfied with it. The recording is very crisp. The style is reminiscent of village-style Malian djembe music, and while my original thought was that some of the songs sounded nowhere near what I knew, I have come to find out that this very common- the same songs sound different in different regions of West Africa.I'd still recommend it, but be aware of what you're getting.

Not THE Mamady
I only recently discovered this for myself, but please be aware that this is not the legendary Mamady Keita, but another drummer with a similar name. The quality of the musicianship is nowhere near the level of THE Mamady's, and I am pretty certain that the song titles are incorrect, as well. I've got this cd, and it has never much impressed me - now I know why.

This is not THE Mamady
You learn something new every day. I saw a comment on here, pertaining to another review, which led me to do some research. I looked at the discography that was published in Mamady's book "A Life For The Djembe", and discovered that this cd is, indeed, NOT by the legendary Mamady Keita, but by someone else. I've never much cared for this cd, and now I understand why! Buy at your own risk!
