Plus they bring it back to their nests. For roaches, since they cannot burp, their stomachs literally explode. Boric acid works too, but differently. It gets better their bodies and shells and itches then to death.

Can this be used in high efficiency washing machines?

It comes in a powder, so if you have one of those washers where you can only put liquid detergent in it, to be funneled in via a tube to be squirted into your wash, you would not put it in there, as it could clump and clog the line. I just lightly sprinkle it on the clothes, themselves, directly, so I'd imagine you could do the same kind of thing in any washer.
