does the grill detach for easy cleaning?

The actual grill plate does not detach but the grill does detach from the stand so you can set it on your counter by the sink and clean. I have a GE Panini grill with removable plates and this George Foreman grill is actually easier to clean. Less nooks/crannies on the exterior. I've cooked greasy hamburgers on this one and a sturdy wet paper towel, a bit of Dawn detergent cleaned it right up.
